9.5 Electric auxiliary kit for Stratos Solar Energy Systems
The Stratos range includes two electric heaters as accessories:
• 1.5 kW heating element with a thermostat, 1"1/4 G connection,
which is intended to be an auxiliary source for heating domestic
hot water (Part number 5240000000061), adjustment range
10-70°C.
• 200W heating element, ½" G connection, which is intended
to prevent the water contained in the system from freezing in
winter (Part number 5240000000060), operating range ON
5°C, OFF 15°C.
Operating conditions
Do not use heating elements at a voltage higher than the one
stamped on them; powering heating elements at a voltage higher
than the rated voltage decreases their life-cycle.
Maintenance
Regularly check the heating element for corrosion and clean it
if necessary. Set the thermostat to a temperature lower than the
boiling point of water.
CAUTION! The heating element electrical connec-
tion must only be made by qualified professionals
in compliance with the regulations in force to elim-
inate any hazardous conditions
10. Grounding
As for all metal structures, the Stratos DR solar thermal system
must be properly grounded before its commissioning. Failure of
proper grounding of the system, will result in expiration of any
form of warranty coverage.
11. Filling and starting
After having suitably connected the water supply pipes fill the
system. Fill the system with a maximum flow rate of 8 litres/
minute in order to allow the air contained inside the accumulation
tubes to escape completely.
After carrying out the filling, air bleeding and circuit check, you
can connect the system outlet.
Now you can remove the protective film from the glass.
CAUTION! After installation fill the system and
remove the film within a week to avoid any glue
deposits on the glass. In case of glue deposits on
the glass surface use a cloth soaked in alcohol and water to
remove them.
CAUTION! When the system is started for the first
time, even if the radiation is sufficient, it will take
some time before the system is fully operational.
Normally hot water is produced one day after installation
12. Tips for proper use of the system
At least once a year perform a visual inspection of the system to
check its integrity.
Only use CORDIVARI original accessories.
For added comfort, we recommend the use of domestic hot
water in the evening.
CAUTION! In the event of prolonged absence from
home or if water is not used for an extended period
of time it is recommended to completely empty the
manifold and cover it with a protection cloth (available as an
accessory) to prevent the heat generated in the system from
damaging it.
The same procedure should be used in case of temperatures
below 0°C. Otherwise an antifreeze heating element should be
used (not supplied as standard, part number 5240000000060);
using a 1.5 kW heating element does not protect the system
against possible ice formation. Do not exceed the temperature
and pressure values set out in paragraph 4.1.
13. Maintenance and troubleshooting
For proper operation of the Stratos solar thermal system, the fol-
lowing periodic checks must be performed:
In the first 2 days of system operation
- Domestic hot water: in the first hours of operation the system
will not produce hot water, because it still needs to become
fully operational and overcome the thermal inertia of all its
components.
- Connections: check for leaking or dripping from the system
connections.
In the first 7 days of system operation
- Supporting structure: check for correct tightening of the
supporting structure screws.
Every 6 months:
- Check the vacuum breaker valve for clogging by removing its
protective cap and pressing on the valve disc. Do not use sharp
tools.
Once a year
- Glass cleaning: once a year it is recommended to have the
manifold glass surface cleaned to keep performance high;
please consult a specialist.
Considering the way the solar energy system works, if water
quality specifications do not comply with those indicated on page
4, it is advisable to perform a periodic chemical wash in order
to prevent any lime scale from clogging the system and com-
promise its use.
