Introduction
1
You have purchased the portable TESA-RUGOSURF 10G surface roughness gauge and we thank you
for your choice.
In order to help you to get the best performances from your gauge unit and use it satisfactorily, we
advise you to first read this manual carefully.
For a safe use over years, we also recommend to take all the precautions stated hereafter.
Your roughness gauge uses a calibrated stylus mounted at probe end. It is, therefore,
advisable to handle this unit with special care so as to avoid shocks. To keep it perfectly
clean, use an air jet with air pressure not exceeding 2 bars.
Safety precautions
2
•
Make sure the mains supply meets the conditions of use indicated on the roughness gauge as well as
in this manual.
•
Do not attempt to dismantle the unit, except for the parts listed in this manual. If you fail to take this
precaution, you might damage it or cause a failure to occur during operating.
•
Do not subject the probe to stress or shocks. This feature is a sensitive component, which must be
handled with care.
•
Do not use the roughness gauge in a dusty environment or have it exposed to vibrations. Keep it away
from appliances emitting noise on the mains, such as air conditioners, transformers or high-voltage
relays.
•
Do not use the unit in places where there may be excessive and sudden temperature variations. Do not
leave it in a closed, overheated room or exposed to direct sunlight.
•
Store your roughness gauge where temperature remains within -10°C to +50°C.
•
Before you start measuring, remove any oil spots or dust particles on the surface to be traversed.
•
Do not drop your roughness gauge. Avoid any shocks. Despite it is solidly built, the measuring system
inside the unit may be damaged causing the measurement results to be wrong.
1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
General description
3
Your TESA-RUGOSURF 10G is a lightweight, pocket-sized surface roughness gauge that is very easy to
handle and to use. This microprocessor-controlled gauge uses a colour graphic display (LCD-TFT). The
unit is powered through a rechargeable battery pack, which provides a remarkable operating autonomy.
All menus and messages can be displayed in either of the selectable languages English, French,
German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
This roughness gauge consists of an electronic unit, a built-in translator and a printer available as an
option. It allows the main roughness parameters on the surface finish to be measured with a resolution
in thousandths. Whether held in the hand or fastened to a stand, this versatile tool can face any
conditions of use. So as to avoid any vibration that could alter the measurement results, you may turn
on the unit and start measuring from the printer used as remote control for data transfer. But, to do so,
you may also use the remote switch, or proceed over the Rugosoft software tool. These last two
components are available as optional accessories.
The measuring range is automatically set when choosing any of the three cut-offs available. However,
you may change this range by selecting the number of cut-offs (from 2 to 10) to be used for the
measurement.
Your roughness gauge prevents and displays any incorrect handling or irregularities that can be
checked as you are executing a presetting operation or carrying out the measurement. The memory lets
you store as much as 999 measurements, which may be recalled and further printed out any time.
The common functions, such as recalling the results or the cut-offs and starting up the measurement
operations are directly accessible from the keypad while any other function linked to measurable
parameters is available as auxiliary function. Furthermore, the menus allow preset tolerancing for each
parameter. This makes series checks easier.
