Electric brake
This tool is equipped with an electric brake. If the tool
c o n s i s t e n t l y f a i l s t o q u i c k l y c e a s e t o f u n c t i o n a f t e r t h e
s w i t c h t r i g g e r i s r e l e a s e d , h a v e t h e t o o l s e r v i c e d a t a
M a k i t a s e r v i c e c e n t e r .
Soft start feature
This function allows the smooth start-up of the tool by
l i m i t i n g t h e s t a r t - u p t o r q u e .
Strap hole
WARNING:
Do not use the strap hole for
any other purpose than hanging the tool or than
anti-theft of the tool. Otherwise personal injury may
o c c u r .

ASSEMBLY
Installing or removing battery
cartridge
CAUTION:
Always switch off the tool before
installing or removing of the battery cartridge.
CAUTION:
Hold the tool and the battery car-
tridge firmly when installing or removing battery
cartridge. Failure to hold the tool and the battery
cartridge firmly may cause them to slip off your hands
and result in damage to the tool and battery cartridge
and a personal injury.

To remove the battery cartridge, slide it from the tool
while sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.
To install the battery cartridge, align the tongue on the
battery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slip
i t i n t o p l a c e . I n s e r t i t a l l t h e w a y u n t i l i t l o c k s i n p l a c e
w i t h a l i t t l e c l i c k . I f y o u c a n s e e t h e r e d i n d i c a t o r a s
shown in the figure, it is not locked completely.
CAUTION:
Always install the battery cartridge
fully until the red indicator cannot be seen. I f n o t ,
it may accidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury to
y o u o r s o m e o n e a r o u n d y o u .
CAUTION:
Do not install the battery cartridge
forcibly. I f t h e c a r t r i d g e d o e s n o t s l i d e i n e a s i l y , i t i s
not being inserted correctly.
Mounting auger bit
CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is
switched off and the battery cartridge is removed
before carrying out any work on the tool.
CAUTION:
When attaching the auger bit to the
spindle, make sure that the auger pin is locked
and inspect the auger pin for any damages.
CAUTION:
When carrying the tool, remove
the auger bit from the tool.
Mounting auger bit on spindle
NOTE: The shape and mechanism of the auger bit
a n d t h e a u g e r p i n m a y v a r y d e p e n d i n g o n y o u r a u g e r
bit.
Align the hole on the spindle with the hole on the auger
bit.
Put the auger bit onto the spindle.

Fix the auger bit with the auger pin and the safety lock.

OPERATION
CAUTION:
This is a powerful tool which gen-
erates high torque. It is important that the tool is
securely held and properly braced.
CAUTION:
Before operating, check that there
is no foreign matter (sand, dirt, etc.) stuck in the
openings or moving parts.
Work posture
M a i n t a i n i n g p r o p e r o p e r a t i n g p o s i t i o n i s o n e o f t h e
most important and effective procedures for controlling
kickback.
Keep proper positioning by practicing the following
p o i n t s .
•
Position the tool so that the bar of the reaction
r e c e i v e r a l w a y s c o n t a c t s o n t h e l e f t s i d e o f y o u r
w a i s t .
•
Grasp the handle and the side handle with both
hands. Wrap your fingers around the gripping
a r e a s , k e e p i n g t h e g r i p p i n g a r e a s c r a d l e d
between your thumbs and forefingers.
•
Keep your back as vertical as possible by bending
t h e l e g s a s r e q u i r e d d u r i n g t h e d i g g i n g p r o c e s s .
•
S t a y a l e r t t o t h e t o r q u e r e a c t i o n f o r c e o f t h e t o o l .
Always keep the operating position that you can
w i t h s t a n d t h e t o r q u e r e a c t i o n f o r c e .
