Original Operating Instructions UNIDRIVE
3.3

Putting on the Full Body Harness

In a safe place, the full body harness in accordance with EN 361 or a rescue harness in accordance
with EN 1497 is put on according to its operating instructions and the belt straps pulled tight. After a
load test with own body weight all the belt straps are adjusted again.
3.4

Downwards Movement (Rescue of an Accident Victim)

The UNIDRIVE descender device must only be used by persons who have been instructed in its safe
use and who have the appropriate knowledge.
When descending, do not allow the rope to run over sharp edges. Protect ropes
Attention:
against sharp-edged objects, welding sparks, chemicals, extreme temperatures or other destructive or
damaging hazards.
Wear protective gloves.
Remove the descender device with the lifting gear from the plastic bag so that the karabiner on the
descender device can be hooked into an anchor point. (See Illustration 1)
Hook the karabiner at the top end of the descent rope into the attachment point on the rescue harness
EN 1497 / ANSI Z359.4 or full body harness EN 361 / ANSI Z359.1 and secure it. (See Illustration 2).
(Use exclusively anchor eyelets (marked with "A"))
Throw down the plastic bag with the remaining lifting gear. The rope must hang free of loops and
reach down to the lower situated descent point. (See Illustration 3)
In the unloaded condition, that is, when no-one is suspended on the rope, the travel direction lever of
the release head fitted on the back of the descender device can be optionally shifted and thereby the
direction of travel of the lifting gear selected.
The change of travel direction is done via shifting the travel direction lever. To descend, the direction
switch must point to the long end of the rope.
The switching can only be done with the release head in a load-free condition, this means the descent
load must be held with the handwheel.
Before initiating the downwards movement, care must be taken that the lifting gear above the user is
kept taut.
The loose, unloaded end of the lifting gear is guided through the open eyebolt and stretched tight
downwards. In this position the operator can hold the weight with one hand with minimal effort. Now
the handwheel can be slowly relieved so that the load is taken over slowly by the manual force on the
free lifting gear end.
By slowly guiding the free lifting gear, the operator can now control the speed of the descent and stop
it at any time.
