Adjusting cutting width
Pull out the mains plug before adjust-
ing the cutting width.
• Cutter 13 (Fig. 1) included in the delivery specifi-
cation is an expanding grooving cutter with
reversible knives which may be adjusted to cut-
ting widths between 15.4 and 26.5 mm (5/8 –
1 1/32 in.). In addition to the expanding grooving
cutter you dispose of spacer disks with the follow-
ing thicknesses: 5, 3, 1, 0.5 and 0.2 mm (approx.
13/64, 1/8, 3/64, 1/64 and 1/128 in.). By means of
which you are able to realise intermediate cutting
widths in steps of 0.2 mm (0.008 in.).
Before fitting the various parts, make
sure that there are no dirty particles
clinging to them.
• To assemble the parts of the expanding grooving
cutter, first stick the spacer disks not required to
frontflange 9, then the front part of the expanding
grooving cutter, the needed spacer disks and
finally the rear part of the expanding grooving cut-
ter. Then stick the whole assembly to the rear
flange and tighten with cylinder-head screw 10.
The range of adjustment specified on
the expanding grooving cutter must
not be exceeded.

Change and adjustment of reversible
knives
Before changing and adjusting the
reversible knives pull out the mains
plug.
• The expanding grooving cutter 13 (Fig. 1) is
equipped with 4 TCT reversible knives and
4 TCT scoring knives. If the cutting edges
become blunt, the reversible knife 34 (Fig. 5) can
be turned over once and the reversible scoring
knife 31 three times, then new knives have to be
used.
• Take off expanding grooving cutter 13 (Fig. 1)
from the machine.
• Slacken off threaded pin 32 (Fig. 5) with Allen
key 4 mm (SW 4) and turn it out by about 1 – 2
turns. Pull clamping device cpl. 33 together with
reversible knife 34 out of the expanding grooving
cutter. Clean all parts and the knife slots in the
expanding grooving cutter (see chapter 5).
Aluminium tools should only be de-res-
ined using solvents that do not attack
the aluminium.
• Turn reversible knife 34 or replace it if necessary
and refit it together with clamping device cpl. 33
centered in the expanding grooving cutter. The
two parts are correctly fitted, if they rest upon the
bottom of the knife slot. Check the direction of the
cutting edges (see Fig. 5)! The radial projection
of the cutting edges against the supporting body
must not be bigger than 1.1 mm (3/64 in.). Now
retighten threaded pin 32 while pressing the
reversible knife and clamping device to the bot-
tom of the knife slot.
• Having loosened flat-head screw 35 turn
reversible scoring knife 31 by 90°, if neccessary
replace it, clean all parts and tighten the screw
again.
The clamping sleeve in clamping
device cpl. 33 must not be removed.
When changing, only original MAFELL
spare parts may be used.

Operation

4.1

Initial operation

Before using the machine for the first time, it is
imperative to observe the following notes:
Personnel entrusted to work with the machine
must have read the operating instructions. Main
importance has to be attached to the chapter
„Safety instructions".
Make sure that the safety equipment is attached
and functions. This applies in particular to the
slight movability of the retractable lower guard.
