Cutting with guide track (special accessory)
It is very important to observe the
instructions with regard to cutting
contained in the chapter „Safety
instructions"!
The guide track 19 (Fig. 3) is equipped with a stop
angle 24 (Fig. 4), which allows to set angles
between –60° and +60° diagonally to the fibrous
structure of the wood.
• To set an angle release clamping levers 20 and
21 and adjust stop plate 22 according to angle
scale 23. Then retighten clamping lever 21.
• Turn stop angle 24 to the side you wish and
tighten with clamping lever 20.
• Set the guide track along the desired groove.
• Slide adapter 25 (Fig. 3) on the side of the motor as
far as possible into the guideways of base plate 14
(Fig. 2) and tighten with wing screws 16 (Fig. 1).
If you work with an inclinated cutting
assembly (e.g. cutting skew notches)
pull out the adapter accordingly in order
to avoid cutting into the guide track.
• Place the groove-cutting machine with the front
part on the guide track. Switch on the machine
and cut with steady feeding. After having finished
the cut switch off the machine and pull it back in
it's starting position. Make sure, that the retracta-
ble lower guard closes.
A special adjustment device has been
provided to eliminate possible play
between adaptor and guide track.
To make the adjustment unscrew the flat-
head screws 18 (Fig. 3) in the clamping
bar 17 with the Allen key just enough so
that the adaptor just moves inside the
groove of the guide track.
4.9
Cutting grooves, lap joints and tenons
Set the desired cutting depth. Guide the groove-cut-
ting machine either according to markings or by
means of the guide track. For achievable cutting
measures see Fig. 6. To realise wider grooves or
lap joints perform continuous cuts from the right to
the left side. In order to obtain exact edges, always
use guide track 19 (Fig. 3) for the first and last cut.

4.10 Cutting skew notches (bird's mouth)

Mark the skew notch with the longer side «X»
(Fig. 6) on the left side of the front rafter, set angle
and cutting depth at the groove-cutting machine. For
achievable cutting measures see Fig. 6.

Service and maintenance

Pull out the mains plug before start-
ing on any maintenance work!
MAFELL machines are designed to be
low in maintenance. The ball bearings
used are greased for life. After a pro-
longed period of operation, users are
recommended to have the machine
checked by an authorized MAFELL cus-
tomer service shop.
5.1
Machine
The machine must be cleaned of dust deposits at
regular intervals. When doing so, clean the air vents
on the motor using a vacuum cleaner.
In addition it must be checked whether the retracta-
ble lower guard moves smoothly. If it does not close
automatically after having opened it, the machine
must be taken to a MAFELL customer service shop.
Only use our special grease, order number 049040
(1 kg tin), for all lubrication spots.
5.2
Cutter
The cutters used on the machine must be freed from
resin regularly as clean tools improve the cutting quality.
This can be done by soaking the cutters for 24 hours
in paraffin or commercially available resin remover.
Aluminium tools should only be de-res-
ined using solvents that do not attack
the aluminium.
5.3
Storage
If the machine is out of service for a lengthy period of
time, it should be thoroughly cleaned (see chapter 5.1).
Spray bright metal panels with a rustproofing agent.
Store the machine only in dry rooms, where it is pro-
tected against weathering.
