material (20) until no more clouding of the water is visible. After connecting the hoses,
the device is ready for operation.
F
Set the flow rate as desired by turning the power regulator (25).
G
When the regulator is set to "0", there is no water flow through the filter container (22),
and so no biological filtering takes place.
Opening and closing the filter container and pump
Be very sure to unplug the mains plug before opening the filter container or pump.
H
To open the filter container (22): Press the three fastening clips (16) outwards out of the
catches.
I
The filter container head (17) can the be lifted upwards.
J
Unscrew the screw (8) to open the sealed pump chamber.
K
The pump chamber cover (7) can then be pulled off of the pump. Close the pump chamber
and the filter container in the reverse order.

Cleaning and care

It is time for cleaning when the discharge of water from the pump decreases noticeably.
Before beginning with cleaning, always unplug the mains plug.
L
First open the filter container (22) as described. Take out the fine fibrous filter material (19),
SUBSTRATpro (20) and the filter mat (21). Rinse out the filter mat under running luke-
warm water. After two to three cleaning intervals, a new filter mat should be used (Order
no. 2616040).
Also rinse out the EHEIM SUBSTRATpro thoroughly under lukewarm water. After two to three
cleanings, replace 2/3 of the filter material with new SUBSTRATpro. Mix approx. 1/3 of the used
filter material with the new filter material, so that the bacterie cultures will multiply faster.
The whit fibrous filter material (Order no. 2616040) has to be taken out and replaced upon each
cleaning. After cleaning, put th filtering materials back into the filter container, minding the order
for layering the filter compound (see side flap).
The structuring of their layers make EHEIM aquacompact External Filters outstandingly well
suited for filtering, achieving approx. 30% better efficiency compared with conventional filtering
systems. Be sure to only use genuine EHEIM filtering materials. They have been laboratory-tested
and function mechanically, biologically, adsorptively and chemically.
M
When the intake screen for the pump (11) is taken off, the filter sponge (10) (Order no.
2616040) can be taken out. Rinse it out under lukewarm water. It has to be replaced after
the 2

or 3
rd
cleaning. For cleaning the hoses and hose connections, we recommend the
EHEIM Universal Cleaning Brush (Order no. 4005570).
Pump chamber and partition
The pump chamber should be cleaned from time to time so as to guarantee flawless operation of
the EHEIM aquacompact External Filter. To clean the pump chamber, open the pump chamber
cover as described. Clean the pump impeller (6), pump chamber, pump cover and cooling duct
with a soft brush (Order no. 4009560).
N
After cleaning, screw the pump chamber cover back onto the pump.
O
To clean the partition (24), take it out of the filter container (22), doing so by lifting it up-
ward and out of the guide rail.
