Safety equipment

5.1 Safety valve

Every closed water heater with up to 5000 l nominal capacity is
to be equipped with a component-tested, spring-loaded dia-
phragm safety valve. A shut-off device must not be installed be-
tween the cylinder and the safety valve. The use of dirt traps or
other restrictions in the line to the safety valve is also prohibited.
The installation height of the safety valve must be selected in
such a way that enables the discharge pipe, which is to be sub-
sequently connected, to be installed at a gradient. It is advanta-
geous to arrange the safety valve above the domestic hot water
cylinder so that it can be replaced without drainage.

The nominal diameters of the discharge pipe and the outlet cross
section of the safety valve must be equal in size. A warning sign
should be affixed near to the discharge pipe (on the safety valve
itself is advisable):
"Water may escape from the discharge pipe during heating! Do
not close!

5.2 Pressurised expansion vessels

According to DIN 4807-5 closed expansion vessels with dia-
phragms can be integrated into the cold water line of closed
water heaters.
