Design of wireless range
The radio signal is attenuated on the way from the transmitter to
the receiver. In addition, the radio signal is attenuated/influenced by
obstacles. The degree of attenuation depends on the material of the
obstacle. The following tables serve as a guide.
Penetration of radio signals:
Material
wood, gypsum, glas uncoated
brick stone, press boards
armoured concrete
metal, aluminium lamination, water
Typical ranges:
Place of use
in free field (SW868/915/917)
in free field (SW922)
indoors (SW868/915/917)
indoors (SW922)
Radio operation
The transmission of a switching command from the transmitter to the
receiver takes about 80 to 100 ms, based on the sWave® data trans-
mission. The switching signal from a transmitter may not be generat-
ed at a shorter interval, otherwise the signal will be suppressed. The
preset delay time of 1 s can be adjusted from min. 125 ms to max.
31.9 s (see RF RxT SW868/915/917/922-NET, »Description of inter-
face/Wireless receiver«, section »StateMessage-Response«, para-
graph »RECORD.CYCLETIME«, download from www.steute.co.uk).
Safety
Do not use the device in conjunction with devices that directly or indi-
rectly serve health or life-safety purposes or whose operation may
cause danger to people, animals or property.
Maintenance and cleaning
With rough conditions, we recommend routine maintenance as follows:
1. Removal of all dirt particles.
2. Remove dust from sensor surfaces.
Clean enclosure on the outside only. Clean enclosure with household
cleaning agents. Do not use compressed air to clean.
Technical information
The transmitter and receiver of a reflective light sensor are located
inside a housing. The separate transmitter and receiver are positioned
at the same level. Reflective light sensors detect an object as soon
as they sense sufficiently reflected light from its surface. When an
object is detected, the sensor generates a defined electrical output
signal. A light surface reflects more light than a dark surface and can
therefore also be detected from a greater distance. In order to achieve
similar results with a dark surface, the sensitivity of the light sensor
must be increased. It is a challenge with energetic sensors to detect a
dark object against a light background. Because of its high degree of
reflection, the light background outshines the object. Conversely, light
objects against a dark background are much easier to detect. In order
to save energy in a battery-driven system and prolong battery life, the
clocking of the infrared transmitting diode is relatively long, approx.
2 Hz. This also, however, leads to an increased response time.
Battery
Penetration
The battery charge is displayed in the description of interface in par-

10...90 %
When the battery voltage acc. to the radio protocol drops below approx.
0...10 %
<3200 mV (at 20°C, load approx. 20 mA), it may be assumed that the
battery is empty. Attention: The open circuit voltage measurement
does not provide reliable information! In order to ensure reliable
functioning, the battery must be replaced. To do this, the 5 screws in

the housing cover must be opened using a torx-8 screwdriver. The
battery should be inserted in the direction shown by the symbols on

battery type. Depending on the country the device is supplied to, deliv-

adapter, or a lithium battery SL-2770/3.6 V/8.5 Ah without an adapter

or a complementary battery type. Once the battery has been changed,
the housing must be closed and the screws replaced, tightened with a
torque of approx. 0.45 Nm. The sealing must not be contaminated by
any foreign bodies.
