VI. MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
WARNING - Before cleaning, the inspecting or repairing the unit, make sure that engine has
stopped and is cool.
6.1- Maintenance
6.1.1- Blade
WARNING: Sharp blades. Serious cutting injury hazard. Wear protective gloves for any
intervention near or on the blades.
a) Assembly
1. When mounting the blade, make sure to securely fasten the spacer,
washer and bolt, then fasten the nut (see Fig.12: 1-bolt; 2-washer; 3-spacer;
4-nut)
Check the blade and the fasteners for looseness, cracking, or bending.
2. Check the cutting edges and reform with a flat file.
3. The blades assembly is designed to automatically compensate for any
play between the blades.
4. Regularly check that blade bolts are well tightened.
You do not need to adjust the gap (Fig. 13) between upper blade and lower
blade as this product is designed to have optimal gap when it is properly set
up.
b) Cleaning
Regularly clean the machine (after each use).
Clean any resin and plant residue from the blade.
c) Sharpening
Check the cutting edges of the blades and sharpen with a flat file
(Fig.13)
- Keep the end corner sharp.
- Round the root of the edge.
- Do not use water when using a grinder
Always keep the file or sharpener at an angle of 45° to the blade
(fig.14), and:
- Always grind in the direction of the cutting edge;
- Note: files only cut in one direction, lift the file from the blade when
returning to start a new pass;
- Remove all burr from the edge of the blade with a slip stone;
Remove as little material as possible;
- Before re-mounting the sharpened blade, remove filing remnants
and then apply grease (Fig.15)
Warning! Do not attempt to sharpen a damaged, cracked blade;
change it.
