Bring the piston to the top dead centre (TDC) using the specifi c
Piaggio tool or, as an alternative, search the position using a dial
gauge, taking care to mark a reference on rotor and crankcase
(Fig. 3).

– Remove the camshaft sprocket by holding the rotor nut.
– Remove the chain tensioner and the gear of the camshaft. Fix
the timing chain to the crankcase with an iron wire to prevent it
from falling.
– Remove the two M6 screws that fi x the head to the crankcase.
– Loosen the 4 M6 nuts of the head.
– Unscrew the 4 M6 nuts previously loosened.
– Remove head, chain guide sliding block and cylinder from the
crankcase.
– Use a clean cloth to protect the crankcase against dirt and
foreign material.
– Remove the piston circlip, pull out the gudgeon pin and take off
the piston from the connecting rod.
ASSEMBLY
Carefully clean the cylinder mating surface on the crankcase from
any residue of the original sealing paste. Clean and degrease the
TOP cylinder and check that the cylinder neck enters smoothly in
the casings hole by inserting it fully home. If there are hard spots, it
is recommended to remove them by ensuring that no shaving enters
in the crankcase.
