DCF memory standard

The recordings on your camera are managed (saved, named, etc.) in accordance with the DCF
standard (DCF = Design rule for Camera File system). Photos or recordings on memory cards
from other DCF cameras can also be played back on your camera.

Card drive

If your PC has a card drive or is connected to a card reader, you can use this to copy the shots
on the memory card to the PC.
The card reader is also detected as a removable data medium on the Windows desktop (or in
"Computer" if using Vista/Windows 7).

Memory folder structure

The camera saves the pictures, videos and audio files in two different directories in the internal
memory or on the memory card.
The following folders are created automatically:
Folder DCIM: This folder contains the two following subfolders:
1 0 0 D I C A M .: All pictures, videos and audio files are saved to this folder, except for videos
which were recorded in Internet quality mode.
1 0 1 U T U B E : Pictures taken in Internet quality mode are saved to this folder.
Normal shots are located in the "100DICAM" folder and are automatically given the name
prefix "DSCI" followed by a four-digit number.
When the highest number has been reached – "DSCI9999" – the next folder "101DICAM" is
created for the following shots.

Resetting the file number

A maximum of 999 folders can be created. If another capture/recording is made after this, an
error message will appear ("Directory cannot be created"). If this happens, proceed as follows:
 Insert a new memory card.
 Reset the file numbers in the "SETTINGS" menu using the menu item "FILE NO.". The file
count restarts at 0001 in the folder 100DICAM.
Do not try to change the folders and files in the camera's own directory structure (by renam-
ing, etc.). This can result in the loss of data.
