Brohltal Mallet Steam Loco-
motive
THE PROTOTYPE
Initially, these Mallet steam locos
were built by Henschel & Sohn. In
1925, Hanomag built a similar
loco for the meter-gauge line from
Zell to Todnau in the Black Forest,
clearly using the drawings from
Henschel.
In 1929, the Brohltalbahn (Brohl
Valley Railway) received a similar
locomotive, No. 2, for this winding
line. Later, a third rail was instal-
led on the lower level of the yard
tracks to enable switching of nor-
mal-gauge freight cars - the Mal-
let was later equipped with an off-
set buffer beam. The Brohltal line
continues to exist, today, phonoli-
te is hauled with diesel locos to
the harbor.

OPERATION
Operating Modes
This model has a four-way power
control switch mounted inside the
cab (Fig. 1, 2):
Position 0: All power off
Position 1: Power to lights and
smoke generator
Position 2: Power to lights, smoke
generator and motors
(factory pre-set)
Position 3: Same as Position 2.
Multi-Train System
This model has two "D" gearbo-
xes and decoder interfaces. It can
be equipped with two LGB Multi-
Train System Decoders (55020)
using Decoder Interface Cables
(55026).
For more information, contact
your authorized LGB retailer or an
LGB service station (see Factory
Service). We recommend factory
installation of decoders (see Fac-
tory Service).
Lighting
This model has automatic direc-
tional lanterns on the front and
the rear of the loco. The cab is
also lighted. A 5-volt voltage sta-
bilization circuit provides constant
power to the lights, even when the
loco is moving slowly.
This model has a "flat" lighting
socket, with a removable cover,
on the rear of the loco. This socket
can be used to provide track
power to cars with lighting and
sound electronics. If your cars
have the older, "round" lighting
connectors, use the Light Socket
Adapter (68334).
Smoke Generator
This model has a smoke genera-
tor in the smokestack. A small
supply of LGB Smoke and Clea-
ning Fluid is also included with
this model. For best operation, fill
the generator halfway with fluid. If
the generator is overfilled, it will
not convert the fluid into smoke.
