and slowing down by a form-locking connection
between the front saw flange and the saw shaft.
Protection against contact with the tool:
In accordance with the requirements of EN
61029-2-1, the part of the saw blade not invol-
ved in the cutting process is protected below the
table by the fixed lower saw guard and above
the table by the riving knife/splitter and the
upper saw guard. Making sure that the blade will
stop within less than 10 seconds, once the
motor has been switched off, is another feature
to reduce this risk.
Precautions against kickback of the workpiece:
Kickback is avoided by the riving knife / splitter.
Its shape has been designed to ensure that - in
connection with the mounting arrangement - the
distance to the saw blade is always correct over
the whole cutting height.
Workpiece guiding:
Safe workpiece guiding is ensured by the multi-
purpose guide fence which can be fixed to all 4
sides of the table and used as rip fence for rip-
ping or as crossand mitre-cut fence for cross
and mitre cuts.
Chip removal:
Chips and dust produced downwards are con-
veyed to the lower extraction outlet by the inte-
grated chip guiding duct. The chips ejected
upwards are collected by the upper saw guard
and also conveyed to the lower extraction outlet
through the connecting hose.
Noise reduction:
The design of the standard saw blade and the
possibility to select the speed according to the
material to be cut are measures to reduce noise.
Electric safety:
The electric equipment of the machine corres-
ponds to the European standard EN 61029-1
and is interference-proof against electromag-
netic fields. As the machine satisfies radio- and
TV interference suppression standards an emis-
sion of electromagnetic disturbances is not tak-
ing place.
The safety devices described in this
manual are essential prerequisites of
safe machine operation. They must
not be removed or put out of action!

Use according to intended purpose
The ERIKA 85 E pull-push saw is intended exclu-
sively for ripping and cross-cutting solid timber and
sheet materials, such as particle board, coreboards
and MDF boards, as well as aluminium profiles and
hard plastic materials using TCT circular saw blades
which meet Standard EN 847-1.
The diameter of the saw blades used must lie within
the following range:
∅
minimum
: 240 mm (9 7/16 in.),
∅
maximum
: 250 mm (9 27/32 in.).
The material being cut must be flat on at least one
side. The maximum permissible workpiece thickness
for vertical cutting is 85 mm (3 3/8 in.).
Any use beyond this scope is considered as failing
to comply with the intended purpose. The manufac-
turer is not liable for any damage caused as a result
of this; the risk is borne solely by the user.
The operator's place for the use according to
intended purpose is in front of the machine.
The use of saw blades made of high-speed steel
(HSS) and of abrasive disks is not permitted.
It is not allowed to use the machine in areas with
explosive atmosphere or to expose it to rain.
Recommended surrounding conditions:
• humidity max. 80 %
• temperature range +1 °C to +40 °C.
Use according to intended purpose also includes
compliance with the operating, maintenance and
repair conditions specified by MAFELL, and adher-
ence to the safety instructions contained in the oper-
ating manual.
The ERIKA 85 E pull-push saw may only be used,
set up and serviced by persons over 18 years of age
who are familiar with the machine and have been
instructed as to the dangers involved. Repair work
must be carried out by authorized MAFELL dealers
or a MAFELL customer service station.
The safety regulations applicable in the country of
use, as well as all other generally accepted rules on
safety and occupational medicine, must be
observed.
Unauthorized modifications to the machine preclude
the liability of the manufacturer for any resultant
damage.
