6. Operating instructions

Before using the device make sure that you have read the operating instructions for the battery and the
vehicle and you have understood all of the safety precautions.

6.1 Overview

6.2 Preperation

Clean the battery terminals to remove dust and corrosion residue.
Only for open batteries: Remove the plugs of the battery cells. Check the liquid level in the cells, consult the opera-
ting instructions of your battery for more information. Replenish only suffi cient distilled water to ensure that the
minimum fi lling level is achieved. The liquid will expand during the charging process and the battery may overfl ow.
Leave the cells of the battery open until the end of the charging process.
In case of closed and maintenance-free batteries, please follow the instructions of the battery manufacturer to the
letter.

6.3 Connecting the battery charger

Caution: Make sure that the charger is not connected to the power socket.
Always connect the red positive cable (+) of the charger (Position 6 in the overview) to the positive terminal of
the battery fi rst. Then connect the black negative cable (-) (Position 7 in the overview) to the negative terminal of
the battery. If you charge the battery in situ, connect the black negative cable (-) to the car body (exposed part),
far away from the battery, the carburettor and fuel lines. Always maintain this sequence. Now connect the mains
connection cable (Position 5 in the overview) to a power socket.

6.4 Charging the battery
