Glow Plug
The glow plug is a key component that has a big effect on performance and reliability.
Use a CRF 6 X-type (CRF88836) plug. depending on your fuel type, settings, temperature,
and altitude.
Glow plug replacement
Replace the glow plug as soon as you experience any of the following:
• Filament coil has become damaged (distorted)
• White filament and roughened surface
• Corrosion of the body plug; foreign matter has adhered to the filament
• Engine dies while idling
• Difficulties starting the engine or inability to start the engine
Carburetor (CRF81312) Installation
The carburetor comes pre-installed from the factory. However, different vehicles may require
an adjustment of its the position.
• Loosen the retainer screw and rotate the carburetor to its correct position making sure it is
pressed well down into the intake boss and compressing the rubber gasket (CRF81337).
• Rotate the retainer screw gently until it stops, then tighten a further 120°-180°. Do not over
tighten the screw, as this will damage the carburetor body.
Combustion Chamber (CRF81309) and Cooling Head Installation (CRF81308)
Since the X312T engine is manufactured with ultra high precision, installing the combustion
chamber and cooling head requires special care.
• The combustion chamber is maintained with 4 screws (CRF81336).
Screw them in lightly using a criss-cross pattern.
• Using a torque screwdriver, tighten the screws progressively, using
a criss-cross pattern until you reach 0.9 Nm.
• Once the combustion chamber is installed, install the cooling head using the
same procedure until you reach 1.2 Nm.
To reach maximum performance and longest life, it is extremely important to maintain perfect
crankcase/cylinder alignment.
Engine Installation
Make sure that the engine mounts and the chassis are level. If they are not, distortion of the
crankcase and misalignment of the bearings can occur, resulting in unstable operation, loss of
power, and engine damage. Remember, each detail makes a difference.
Engine Break-in
The break-in procedure will ensure that all the internal parts fit properly with their
counterparts, and that the optimal operating conditions are reached. CRF technology
and high precision manufacturing eliminate the need for a very long break-in process.
Excessively rich operation and prolonged low speed running should be avoided.
