Cautions
(indicate that equipment or other property may be damaged or may malfunction by misuse)
1. To ensure satisfactory performance, perform the prescribed inspections and operational tests as
recommended.
2. Do not allow fluids to enter the instrument cabinet.
3. To help avoid leaks after cleaning the fluid-overflow traps, before replacing the removable plastic
bowls, confirm visually that the cork gasket in the underside of each bowl-mount flange is undamaged.
4. Do not move the device by pulling on the power cord or the foot pedal connecting hose.
5. The unit contains an internal thermal overheat mechanism to protect the motor from damage if the
unit should overheat. Good ventilation and normal ambient temperatures (65–85 °F) during use should
prevent the unit from overheating. If the unit is operated continuously for over 1 hour, the unit could
overheat and shut down. If the unit shuts down, turn the unit OFF and allow the motor to cool. The
motor will start again when the temperature has been reduced sufficiently.
6. Run the unit for approximately 5 minutes after each procedure (with the system open to atmosphere)
to minimize moisture build-up that can lead to corrosion in the vacuum pump.
7. The VC-10 is NOT for field or transport use.

The Berkeley VC-10 Vacuum Curettage System is shipped as an integral unit that includes the vacuum
curettage pump, foot pedal, and power cord within its shipping carton. A starter kit of disposable
accessory components is also provided in a separate carton (and may be placed within the unit
storage compartment). Unpack the cartons carefully to avoid damage to the components and loss of
any parts.
Section 2.0
General Description and Intended Use
The Berkeley VC-10 Vacuum Curettage System consists of a vacuum pump, collection canisters,
connecting tubing and filters. A Vacurette
attached to a collection set (tubing and handle) and attached to the patient port of the first collection
canister lid.
The VC-10 system is equipped with dual collection and safety trap systems with automatic vacuum
restriction. The system comes complete and ready to operate. The system features elastomeric
polyurethane wheels (two of four with locking feature), a cord wrap on the back panel, and a storage
compartment for supplies and accessories (accessible from the front door of the unit).
The VC-10 system is a high performance model that meets hospital operating room safety
requirements. The device construction is a formed & welded steel structure with thermoformed
plastic panels. All plastic panels and sheet metal components are painted with durable urethane paint.
Polyurethane bumpers are added in four lower corners for impact protection.
The Berkeley VC-10 Vacuum Curettage System is designed for rapid transcervical aspiration of the
contents of the uterus.
