Maintenance
9.1

Fluid Overflow Protection/Safety Trap Collection System

The dual fluid overflow protection/safety trap collection system, located behind the rear panel of the
cabinet, prevents fluids from entering, damaging, and/or contaminating the pump (see Figure 7).
NOTE: When the first overflow collection jar is full, the float ball blocks airflow from the vacuum pump
and "suction" capabilities cease (while the vacuum pump may still be in the ON position).
The traps should be checked and cleaned periodically, and especially whenever any fluid reaches the
Disposa-Filter. The unit should NOT be operated with any fluid in either of the fluid-overflow collection
jars.
1. Hold a small pan underneath the fluid trap collection jar before unscrewing the jar to catch any
fluid spillage due to jar removal.
2. Discard the contents per institutional procedures for disposing of bio-hazardous materials (refer
to section 8.0 for general health and safety concerns).
3. Clean float ball, float ball mechanism, and collection jar thoroughly with an enzymatic detergent
diluted according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
4. Check the trap body for blockage of port openings.
5. Check the jar for cracks and leaks. Check gasket for wear. Replace worn or damaged parts;
contact Technical Support or Customer Service for device repair or for part ordering information.
6. Dry all components well before reassembling, making sure to reinsert the float ball into the
collection jar before reassembly.
Note: In the event that the second overflow collection jar (on the left when viewed from the rear of the
unit) has fluid in it as well, repeat steps 1 through 6 for this jar.
9.2

Disposa-Filter

Replace the Disposa-Filter if it becomes soiled, clogged, or discolored/yellowed. To remove the
Disposa-Filter, detach the connecting hose from the second collection canister and pull from the male
connection/fitting on the top cover of the cabinet. Replace with new Disposa-Filter.
9.3

Fuse Replacement

1. Before replacing fuses, disconnect the power cord from the power entry module (lower rear
panel of the unit).
2. To access the fuses, pry open and remove the small drawer/fuse holder at the bottom of the
power entry module with a small, straight blade screwdriver or stylus. Remove fuses from the
drawer/fuse holder (see Figure 8).
3. It is recommended to replace both fuses when fuse replacement is required. Replace fuses
(Qty: 2) as necessary with correct fuse type, based on unit voltage (see Section 3.3 Technical
Specifications for fuse ratings, type, and Gyrus Medical part number). Install fuses by placing
them into the drawer/fuse holder (there is no specific orientation of the fuses required).
4. Fully reinstall the drawer/fuse holder into the power entry module. Reconnect the power cord
into the power entry module. Confirm that the device is operational by plugging the unit into a
functional wall outlet and turning the power switch to the ON position.
