7. CONNECTION, COMMISSIONING, CHARGING

For charging rechargeable batteries in the charging programmes "modes 1, 2, 5 and 6", the rechargeable
battery may remain connected to the vehicle electronics.
For charging in "modes 3, 4, 7 and 8", the rechargeable battery must be disconnected from the vehicle
electronics. Non-observation poses a risk of damage to the vehicle electronics due to overvoltage.
a) Connect the charger to a mains socket (220 - 240 V/AC). The LED "Power" (fig. 3, item 1) is lit. When this LED
flashes, the device is in standby mode.
The charge saves the last charging programme used. Therefore, you can also connect the charger to the
rechargeable battery first and then the charger to a mains socket (220 - 240 V/AC). In this case, charging will
start with the last charging programme used (mode 1 to 8). The corresponding LEDs will be lit.
b) Install the charging cable adapter with the
alligator clamps to the charging cable until it
latches (fig. 3, item 2). This plug connection
is (as in the charging cable adapter with fuse
for fixed connection - fig. 3, item 3) protected
against polarity reversal and can only be
connected in one place. To loosen this con-
nection, you need to push in the rocker at the
adapter (fig. 3, item 4 on the "Charging cable
side" a little and then loosen the plug connec-
tions. Now install the red alligator clamp to
the plus pole, the black alligator clamp to the
minus pole of the rechargeable battery.
Alternatively, you can replace the alligator clamps for mobile use with the charging cable adapter with fuse for
fixed connection for a permanent connection to the rechargeable battery inside the vehicle. For this, install
the black cable with the ring eyelet lug at the minus pole, the red cable with the ring eyelet lug at the plus
pole of the rechargeable battery to be charged. Proceed with care, avoid short circuits and ensure safe con-
tact. For charging in "modes 3, 4, 7 and 8", the rechargeable battery must be disconnected from the vehicle
electronics. Non-observation poses a risk of damage to the vehicle electronics due to overvoltage.
In this "fixed connection adapter", a 10 A fuse with fuse holder is installed under the rubber sleeve. If charging
does not start, the fuse may be defective. In this case, replace the fuse and check the wiring.
For a fixed connection, observe that neither the charger nor the connections of the charging cables must be
exposed to moisture. Operation of the charger in the installed condition (fixed connection in the vehicle) is
only permitted in dry, closed rooms (e.g. a garage).
When the charger is not connected to a mains, a low return current will flow and discharge the recharge-
able battery. Therefore, we recommend the fixed connection only for vehicles that are regularly moved and
charged. The charger has two screw holes at the bottom of the housing for installation in a vehicle.
