8. LED DISPLAYS WHEN CHARGING
The charger indicates the individual charging steps with eight LEDs (fig. 4). When an LED flashes, this charging
step is currently active. When an LED remains lit, this charging step is already completed. The next LED is then
flashing. The individual charging steps are switched fully automatically and cannot be influenced.
Meaning of the LED displays:
a) LED 1 "Diagnosis"
The diagnosis function checks the charge condition of the rechargeable battery before charging. If the rechargeable
battery voltage is below 2 V, if a defective rechargeable battery is connected or if bad contacts lead to the recharge-
able battery not being properly recognised by the charger, charging will not start The LED "Fault" (fig. 4, item 9) will
flash. If the rechargeable battery is above 2 V, the next charging step is initiated after approx. three seconds.
b) LED 2 "Recovery"
Deep-discharged rechargeable batteries are re-conditioned
in this charging step by a special pulse charging procedure.
This charging step is only activated when a deep-
discharged rechargeable battery is recognised and may,
depending on capacity and condition of the rechargeable
battery, take up to eight hours.
c) LED 3 "Full Load"
In this phase, the rechargeable battery is supplied with the
maximum charging current up to approx. 80% of its energy
(capacity). This charging phase will take up to twenty hours,
depending on the rechargeable battery capacity.
d) LED 4 "Absorption"
In the charging phase "Absorption", the charging current is continually reduced and the rechargeable battery is
charged to nearly 100% of its capacity. This charging phase will take up to ten hours, depending on the recharge-
able battery capacity.
e) LED 5 "Analysis"
In this charging step, the charge condition of the rechargeable battery is tested in approx. five minutes. If the
rechargeable battery loses voltage again quickly during this test, a bad rechargeable battery is diagnosed. Further
charging is cancelled and the LED "Fault" (fig. 4, item 9) will flash. The rechargeable battery cannot be used and
must be replaced by a new part. If a good rechargeable battery is diagnosed, the charger will independently switch
to the next charging stage.
