9. START-UP

a) Connecting to the voltage/ power supply
The charger must be connected to a voltage/power supply with a regulated direct voltage (11 - 30 V/DC).
Never run the charger on other voltages; it will ruin the charger; loss of guarantee/warranty!
The charger has a maximum load capacity of 1000 W. Select the power supply high enough to match the charging
power you actually use (depending on the battery type, the number of cells and the set charging current).
If the maximum charging capacity of 1000 W is to be fully utilized, the power supply you are using must be
able to deliver a 20% higher output, that is, at least 1200 W.
A sufficiently powerful lead-acid battery such as a car battery (12 or 24 V) can also be used to run the char-
ger.
Connect the connection cable (10) to the voltage/power supply; observe the correct polarity (pay attention to plus/+
and minus/-!). The red wire must be connected to the positive (+), the black wire to the negative (-) terminal.
The charger will beep briefly and the LCD screen lights up. The charger is
now in the main menu (see example on the right).
b) Connecting a battery to the charger
Consider the following notes before connecting or charging/recharging a battery:
• If you have not done so already, make sure you read Chapters 5, 6 and 7 thoroughly and carefully.
• Do you know the exact battery data? Do not connect/charge/discharge unknown or unlabeled batteries
if you do not know their value data!
• Did you select the correct charging program matching the existing battery type? Incorrect settings will
damage the charger and the battery and pose the risk of fire and explosion!
• Have you set the appropriate charging current?
• Is the voltage set correctly (e.g. for multi-cell LiPo batteries)? A two-cell LiPo battery may be connected
in parallel (3.7 V) or in series (7.4 V), depending on the circumstances.
• Are all connection cables and connectors flawless; do the plugs seat firmly in the connection sockets?
Worn plugs and damaged cables must be replaced.
• Always connect the output of the charger to only a single battery or a single battery pack; never con-
nect several at once.
• When connecting a battery to the charger, always connect the charging cable to the charger first. Only
after that should you connect the charging cable to the battery. Proceed in reverse order when unplug-
ging (first disconnect the battery from the charging cable, then the charging cable from the charger).
Otherwise you risk a short circuit. This can cause a fire or an explosion of the battery!
• If you want to charge self-assembled battery packs, ensure you have identical cells (same type, same
capacity, same manufacturer).
In addition, the cells must have the same charge level (LiPo batteries can be levelled by the balancer,
but other battery packs, such as NiMH or NiCd, cannot).
• Before you connect a battery or battery pack to the charger, remove it fully e.g. from the flight or speed
controller.
