The first Patek Philippe wristwatch with a fully
in-line perpetual calendar, your Reference 5236 is
notable for its display of the day, date and month
in a single large aperture at 12 o'clock. To combine
originality with legibility and reliability, the manu-
facture's engineers developed a new self-winding
movement with a platinum mini-rotor and a separate
perpetual calendar module, the latter the subject
of three patent applications. The in-line display
mechanism alone, with its four rotating disks (two
of these for the date), required 118 additional parts
compared with a conventional perpetual calendar
display. Two small round apertures for the leap-year
cycle and the day/night indicator complete the infor-
mation. The small seconds counter is positioned at
6 o'clock, along with an aperture for the moon phase.
And an aperture for the moon phase complete the
information. A new grand complication timepiece
claims its place in the long and illustrious history
of the Patek Philippe calendar watches.
