Operation 3
General Requirements
TM
SECOND SUN
is controlled by tank pressure. The heater has three modes of operation: ON, OFF and
STANDBY. Two (2) pressure switches determine the mode of operation. An adjustable pressure switch, with a
range of 30 psi – 150 psi (2– 10 bar) determines ON and STANDBY modes. When the pressure in the storage
tank falls below the pre‐set pressure, the heater will cycle on providing heat (energy) into the LPG stored in
the tank. When the pressure rises above the pre‐set pressure the tank heater reverts to standby mode. There
is a switch delay of approximately 5 psi (0.3 bar) before and after the switch set‐point. When the tank pressure
reaches 160 psi (11 bar) the heater will turn off, requiring manual restart.
Operating Instructions – Safety Shutdown
TM
The SECOND SUN
has four (4) safety shutdowns as follows: high tank pressure, loss of catalytic reaction
(combustion out), high tank wall temperature and empty tank.
1. If the tank pressure rises to 160 psi (11 bar) the tank heater will shut down completely requiring a
manual restart.
2. If the catalytic reaction ceases the heater will shut down completely requiring manual restart.
3. If the fuel level in the tank falls below the top of the heater, the heater will revert to standby mode
until the tank is refilled.
4. If the fuel level in the tank falls below the lower section edge of the heater and the tank wall
temperature rises above 130° F (54° C), the heater will shut down completely requiring manual restart.
Starting the Second Sun
1. Attach cables to heavy‐duty 12‐volt battery, service truck
or battery charger, located outside the hazardous storage
area.
2. Start the truck to keep the battery charged during the
heater start‐up procedure.
3. Open the isolation valve on the propane/LPG tank and the
on‐off valve on the heater.
4. Check for gas leaks and repair them before proceeding.
5. Turn the black knob on the gas valve to "Pilot" and wait 15 minutes before depressing the pilot valve
knob. Terminals 3 – 5 should read 100 mV when ready for pilot to start.
6. Depress and hold the pilot knob for at least 30 seconds. Do not attempt to light the heater by hand
with an open flame device, as this is not possible and can result in injury or death.
