Function and application

When the clamping unit type KEC−... is pres
surised at connection 2, the internal clamp
ing component unlocks against a spring. The
clamping rod (on a cylinder with clamping unit
type DNCKE−... the piston rod 4 ) can then
move freely.
When the supply port is exhausted, the spring
actuates the clamping component via a mech
anical friction amplifier. The clamping rod is
clamped.
The clamping unit type KEC−... can be used both as an individual product as well as
integrated in a cylinder type DNC−... (with cylinder with clamping unit type
DNCKE−...) it is designed for holding round material (mostly piston rods). The
clamping unit is intended for the following applications:
Holding the piston rod or the round material during clamping, processing or
handling procedures.
Clamping in any desired position
Avoiding stroke movements (e.g. due to fluctuations in the operating pressure
or leakage)
The cylinder with clamping unit can be used both as a holding device (prevents
starting up) and as a braking device (stops movement).
The intended use has been checked by the Institute for Occupational Safety and is
documented by a BG test certificate.
If used as a braking device, e.g. for interrupting potentially dangerous movements
in a danger zone, a regular check of the slowing−down path as a factor of the travel
speed and the frequency of the braking procedures (increased wear) as well as of
the ambient operating conditions (min./max. temperature) is necessary.
This article is not suitable for positioning tasks or for transmitting torques and
lateral forces. The piston rod should therefore be loaded only in the direction of
movement. A self−aligning rod coupler (see Accessories") can prevent the trans
mission of lateral forces and bending torques.
