5-4. Troubleshooting

Trouble
No weld output; unit completely inop-
erative; no meter displays.
Meter displays a HELP message.
No weld output; meters are on.
Limited weld output and low
open-circuit voltage.
Unit provides only maximum or mini-
mum weld output.
Erratic or improper weld output.
No 24 volts AC output at Remote 14
receptacle.
Fan not operating. Note: This unit has
Fan-On-Demand, fan motor only runs
when cooling is required.
Wandering arc; poor control of arc di-
rection.
Tungsten electrode oxidizing and not
remaining bright after conclusion of
weld.
Digital meter not working properly.

Place line disconnect device in On position (see Section 3-13).
Check for open line fuse(s), and replace if open (see Section 3-13).
Check for proper input power connections (see Section 3-13).
Check for proper jumper link position (see Section 3-12).
If meters display a HELP message, see Section 5-3.
Unit overheated. Allow unit to cool with fan On (see Section 3-2).
Check position of Mode switch (see Section NO TAG).
Check, repair, or replace remote control.
Check position of V/A control ( see Sections 3-9 and NO TAG).
Check for open line fuse(s), and replace if open (see Section 3-13).
Check for proper input power connections (see Section 3-13).
Check for proper jumper link position (see Section 3-12).
Clean and tighten all weld output connections.
Check position of V/A control ( see Sections 3-9 and NO TAG).
Have Factory Authorized Service Agent check control board PC1, front panel display board PC2, and
hall device HD1.
Use proper size and type of weld cable (see Section 3-6).
Clean and tighten all weld connections.
Check wire feeder installation according to Owner's Manual.
Check position of Mode switch (see Section NO TAG).
Have Factory Authorized Service Agent check control board PC1, front panel display board PC2, and
hall device HD1.
Reset supplementary protector CB1 (see Section 5-2).
Check for and remove anything blocking fan movement.
Have Factory Authorized Service Agent check fan motor.
Reduce gas flow rate.
Select proper size tungsten.
Properly prepare tungsten.
Shield weld zone from drafts.
Check and tighten all gas fittings.
Properly prepare tungsten.
Have Factory Authorized Service Agent check front panel display board PC2 and connections, and
replace if necessary.
