Maintenance

Connect the garden hose to the garden
hose connector.

able)

With the engine off, turn on the water
supply and let the water flush through
the cooling water passages for about 15
minutes.
4.
Turn off the water supply, and then dis-
connect the garden hose from the gar-
den hose connector.
5.
Connect the garden hose connector to
the fitting on the bottom cowling and
tighten it securely. NOTICE: If the gar-
den hose connector is not properly

connected, cooling water can leak out
and the engine can overheat during
operation.

TIP:
When flushing the cooling water passages
with the boat in the water, tilting the outboard
motor up until it is completely out of the water
will achieve better results.

Cleaning the outboard motor

When cleaning the outboard motor, the top
cowling must be installed.

Wash the exterior of the outboard motor
using fresh water. NOTICE: Do not
spray water into the air intake.

Drain the cooling water completely out of
the outboard motor. Clean the body
thoroughly.

Checking painted surface of outboard
motor
Check the outboard motor for scratches,
nicks, or flaking paint. Areas with damaged
paint are more likely to corrode. If necessary,
clean and paint the areas. A touch-up paint is
available from your Yamaha dealer.
