7.1 Inserting the batteries

Rechargeable batteries are not suitable for this charcoal barbecue. Use conventional alkaline
batteries only.
The battery compartment (10) is located on the underside of the housing (8).
1. Turn the charcoal barbecue upside down and carefully
place it on a sturdy and even surface.
2. Open the battery compartment cover (10). Using a
finger or fingernail, reach from the outer edge under the
latch of the battery compartment and pull it slightly in
the direction of the arrow ().
3. Insert four AA batteries into the battery compartment
(10). Always pay attention to the polarity.
4. Close the battery compartment cover (10). Make sure
that the latch engages again so that the cover cannot
open and the batteries fall out accidentally.
5. Place the charcoal barbecue upright again. The charcoal barbecue is operational.
If the grill performance deteriorates or the unit takes a long time to fire up, check or replace
the batteries.

7.2 Usage

Before using for the first time, clean the stainless steel grate (1) and the grease collection tray/reflector
(6). This removes dust and any packaging residue. For more on this, please refer to the
"Maintenance/cleaning" section on page 41.
When powering the barbecue on for the first time, have the charcoal glow for 30 minutes,
before using it to prepare food.
Minor smoke development can occur when the device is heated first when starting a new
barbecue session. For this reason, the device should be heated for 10 to 15 minutes prior to
preparing grilled food for the first time.
1. Loosen both latches (7) and remove the stainless steel grate (1).
2. Place the device on an even, non-slip and dry surface.
