9 Place the solid in the holder (1). For floating solids, place the
solid below the holder (2).
10 Ensure that no air bubbles adhere to the solid. Remove any air
bubbles with a fine brush.
11 Wait until the balance has reached stability and note the
displayed value (Value "B" in the formula).
12 Determine the density ρ of the solid according to the formula,
see [Density determination of solids } 7].
4.3 Determine density of liquids
To avoid air bubbles, take following precautionary measures into account:
• Use enclosed wetting agent or organic liquids. The density change on the addition of wetting agent can be
neglected.
• Degrease solvent-resistant solids.
• Clean sinker at regular intervals.
• Gently move sinker on first-time immersion to dislodge any air bubbles.
• Remove adhering air bubbles with a fine brush.
Attention
Always wear cloves when touching parts, which are immersed in liquid.
Note
For the density determination of liquids, use the high glass beaker ø 60 mm.
The optional sinker must be available.
1 Attach the supplied thermometer (1) on the beaker (2) and place
the beaker on the platform.
2 Hook sinker (3) on the bracket and ensure that it does not touch
either the beaker or the thermometer.
3 Tare the balance.
4 Fill beaker with the liquid whose density you want to determine.
Add enough liquid to ensure that the sinker is covered by at least
1 cm liquid after immersion.
5 Make sure that no air bubbles adhere to the immersed part of the
holder. Remove air bubbles by either moving the holder or by
using a fine brush.
6 Wait until the value on the display is stable and note the
displayed value (Value "P" in the formula).
Now determine the density ρ of the liquid at the temperature read

off of the thermometer according to the formula, see [Density
determination of liquids } 8].
