Service life

Like all pressure vessels, HYDAC diaphragm
accumulators have a finite service life. The
lifetime is dependent on the magnitude of the
pressure cycle and also on the number of such
cycles.
The permitted cycles are specified in the
Declaration of Conformity. The authorised
representative can use this data to determine
the operational life of the diaphragm
accumulator (body strength) depending on the
operating conditions of the hydraulic system.
The transfer of gas across the diaphragm due
to its physical properties, as well as a failure in
the diaphragm, can result in an accumulation
of gas in the hydraulic system. If the pressure
falls, this gas expands significantly. Appropriate
measures must be taken on the system to
relieve the gas.
Instructions for the disposal of hydraulic
accumulators
DANGER
Before carrying out any work on hydraulic
accumulators, the relevant safety precautions
must be taken.
Re-chargeable versions:
– Release pressure on the fluid side.
– Release pre-charge pressure.
– Remove closing elements (e.g. valves/plugs)
on the gas and fluid sides.
– Disassemble the hydraulic accumulator into
its constituent parts and dispose of them
according to material type.
Non re-chargeable versions:
– Release pressure on the fluid side.
– Secure the hydraulic accumulator in a vice.
NOTE
When releasing the pre-charge pressure on
non re-chargeable hydraulic accumulators,
ear defenders, goggles and gloves must be
worn.
– Release pre-charge pressure by drilling a
hole in the diaphragm via the fluid side
(≤ 4 mm).
– Remove closing elements (e.g. valves/plugs)
on the gas and fluid sides.
– Dispose of the hydraulic accumulator.
