10. INTERNAL IMPEDANCE MEASUREMENT

The internal impedance is an essential rechargeable battery performance feature. The
lower the internal impedance, the higher the voltage at the rechargeable battery
connection terminals. In particular if the rechargeable battery has to deliver high currents,
high internal impedances will have a detrimental effect very quickly. The terminal voltage is
much lower and the battery temperature can increase strongly.
With the 7 in 1 multimeter, you can measure the individual internal impedance of every
single battery pack cell. However, please observe that the internal impedance of a
rechargeable battery depends on many factors like capacity, temperature, charge state,
age, etc. and therefore may vary strongly. Therefore, it is sensible to only compare the
different impedance values of one battery pack.
Since the rechargeable battery (1) to be
measured cannot serve as voltage
source for the 7 in 1 multimeter at the
same time, a separate current supply
rechargeable battery (2) must be
connected to the balancer connection of
the 7 in 1 multimeter.
connect the internal impedance measur-
ing cable (3) to the input sockets
("INPUT") of the 7 in 1 multimeter. The
black cable (-) must be connected to the
upper plug contact (4) and the red one
(+) to the lower plug contact (5).
The two plug contacts (grid size 2.54 mm) on the other side of the internal impedance
measuring cable (6) are connected to the balancer plug of the rechargeable battery to be
measured.
Important!
The black cable always has to be on the balancer plug side pointing towards
the minus connection. Always avoid connection of the cable with reversed
polarity.
