4.5 INDICATOR LAMP AND DEVICES
(Fig. 4.1 no.5)
This lamp comes on when the key (4.4) is in the
«ON» position and stays on while the machine
is running.
–    W hen it flashes, it means that it is not ready to
be started  (see 5.2).
–    W hen the cutting means is engaged, the
sound warning signals that the grass catcher
is full (see 5.3.6).
4.6 CUTTING MEANS ENGAGE AND
BRAKE CONTROLS (Fig. 4.1 no.6).
This lever has two positions, as shown on the
plate:
Position
  «A»  =    C utting means
Position
  «B»  =  Cutting means engaged
–    I f you engage the cutting means without tak-
ing the necessary safety precautions, the
engine shuts down and cannot be restarted
(see 5.2).
–    O n disengaging the cutting means (Pos. «A»),
a brake is simultaneously activated which
stops their rotation within a few seconds.
4.7 CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
LEVER (Fig. 4.1 no.7)
There are seven positions for this lever, shown
as «1» to «7» on the label, which correspond to
various heights between 3 and 8 cm.
To go from one position to another, move the le-
ver sideways and put it back in one of the seven
stop notches.
4.8 REVERSE GEAR CUTTING CONSENT
PEDAL (Fig. 4.1 no.8)
By pressing and holding the pedal down, it is
possible to switch to reverse gear with the cut-
ting means engaged without causing the engine
to stop.
4.21 BRAKE PEDAL (Fig. 4.2 no.21)
This pedal works the brake on the rear wheels.
4.22 SPEED CHANGE LEVER
(Fig. 4.2 no.22)
This lever is used to engage wheel drive and
adjust machine speed, when in forward and
disengaged
reverse gear.
–    F orward machine gear gradually increases by
moving the gear lever towards «F»; reverse
is engaged by moving the gear lever towards
«R».
–    R eturn to neutral position «N» occurs auto-
matically when the brake pedal is pressed
(4.21) or can be performed manually, when
the pedal is not used.
IMPORTANT The lever is blocked in the «N»
position when the parking brake is engaged (3)
and cannot be moved until the parking brake is
disengaged and the brake pedal is released.
4.23 HYDROSTATIC TRANSMISSION
DISENGAGEMENT LEVER
(Fig. 4.2 no.23)
This lever has two positions as shown on the
label:
«A»  =    T ransmission engaged: for all uses,
when moving and during cutting;
«B»  =    T ransmission disengaged: this makes
it much easier to move the machine by
hand, with the engine turned off.
IMPORTANT To avoid damaging the trans-
mission unit, this operation must be carried out
only when the engine has stopped with the lever
(4.22) at position «N».

WARNING!
be used mostly on sloping ground (never
steeper than 10°), fit counterweights (sup-
plied on request (see 8.1) beneath the
cross-member of the front wheels. These
improve stability at the front and reduce the
chances of tipping over.
IMPORTANT All the references relating to
the positions of controls are those described in
chapter 4.

5.2 WHY THE SAFETY DEVICES CUT IN

The safety devices work in two ways:
–    t hey prevent the engine from starting if all the
safety requirements have not been met;
–    b y stopping the engine if even just one of the
safety requirements is lacking.
a) To start the engine, it is necessary that:
