IMPORTANT - Siting a Vent-Axia Solo
1 The fan must be sited and connected in accordance with current IEE wiring regulations, BS7671, (U.K.) or the appropriate
standards in your country.
2 This fan is not suitable for installation in a shower cubicle or enclosure and must be sited away from direct sources of water
spray. It must be out of reach of a person using a fixed bath or shower. Site away from direct sources of heat in excess of 40 o C.
Do not site in an area containing excessive levels of grease.
3 When the fan is installed in a room containing a fuel burning appliance the installer must ensure that air replacement is adequate
for both the fan and the fuel burning appliance.
4 Wiring should be via a switched spur with a 3 amp fuse (UK). Double pole switch or plug and socket should be located outside the
room containing a fixed bath or shower.
5 Ducted Applications. In circumstances where an excessive amount of moisture is present in the air, then a condensation trap will
need to be installed in the exhaust duct. Horizontal ducts should fall away from the fan unit. Ducts passing through an unheated
roof void should be insulated together with the fan unit.
Fitting Instructions
PREPARATION
Remove the control pack (1) from the top packing tray and store carefully. You will not need this until final commissioning.
Take the fan from the carton and remove the grille (3) by undoing the fixing screw. Remove the fan assembly (4) by undoing the two screws
on either side of the fan. Place the fan assembly and the grille back into the carton for protection.
ENSURE ALL COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN REMOVED BEFORE DISCARDING PACKAGING.
SURFACE MOUNTING
1. Using the template provided, mark the three fixing holes and the centre of the exhaust spigot on the fixing surface.
2. Cut the 110 mm diameter hole.
3. Drill and plug the three fixing holes.
4. Clear knockouts for either recessed or surface wiring in the fan housing (2).
5. Where 100 mm diameter tube is used, this should be grouted into position flush with fixing surface, and the self-adhesive foam sealing strip
(5) fixed around the exhaust spigot on the fan housing.
6. Feed approximately 200mm of the installation cable into the fan housing. Either push the exhaust spigot into the plastic tube, or attach to
100mm Vent-Axia flexible ducting using 100 mm worm drive clip. Secure the housing with the fixing
RECESSED MOUNTING
1. Using the template, mark the centre of the exhaust spigot and the outline of the fan housing onto the fixing surface.
2. Cut the 110 mm diameter hole. Open out to the outline of the fan housing to a depth of 85 mm. Clip the mounting brackets (5) to the fan
housing and mark through the fixing holes onto the wall.
N.B. It is necessary to recess the fixing surface in the area of the fixing brackets to ensure a flush surface after
installation. Ensure that the housing projects 10-15 mm from the finished wall surface to enable the internal grille to be fitted correctly.
3. Drill and plug the two fixing holes for the bracket.
4. Where 100 mm diameter tube is used, the self-adhesive foam sealing strip should be fixed around the exhaust spigot on the fan housing.
See also note 5 of "IMPORTANT" above.
5. Clear a knockout in the fan housing for the incoming cable.
6. Locate the two fixing brackets into the slots at the rear of the housing and insert the assembly into the hole in the fixing surface. Either push
the exhaust spigot into the plastic tube, or attach to 100 mm Vent-Axia flexible ducting, using 100mm worm drive clip. Feed approximately 200
mm of the installation cable into the fan housing.
7. Secure the brackets to the fixing surface with the fixing screws and grout in the housing.
8. Push the frame trim (6) on to the projecting part of the fan housing.
WINDOW MOUNTING See details supplied with Window Kit.
SYSTEM 25 MOUNTING See details supplied with System 25 Plenum.
Wiring Instuctions
1. ENSURE THAT MAINS SUPPLY IS SWITCHED OFF BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE WIRING.
This appliance is only suitable for connection to a 220-240V ~ 50Hz supply.
2. All 'SOLO' models are double insulated and do not require earthing.
3. Connection to mains supply should be in accordance with current I.E.E. wiring regulations, BS7671, or the appropriate standards in your
country.
4. The installation must be provided with a double pole isolator switch having a contact separation of not less than 3mm.
5. Electrical connections are shown in Figures 1 and 2. For window mounted units enter the cable through the grommet in the top of the
housing.
6. Refit the fan assembly, plug in the control pack and fix grille onto the fan.
7. Switch on mains supply and check the fan operation.
TIMER ADJUSTMENT (SOLO T model only)
The SOLO T model are fitted with an electronic timer which is automatically activated when the fan is switched on by means of the remote
switch, eg. lightswitch. The fan will run at full speed for an adjustable preset period
(between 5 and 25 minutes) after the switch is turned off. The timer is factory set at approximately 15 minutes.
BEFORE ADJUSTING TIMER ISOLATE FAN FROM MAINS SUPPLY. Remove the grille by loosening the fixing screw in the middle of the
grille. Turn the knob on the end of the control pack clockwise to increase the set time, anti-clockwise to decrease the set time. Each quarter
turn is equal to approximately 5 minutes.
N.B. If used in a lighting circuit, for reliable operation, we recommend a tungsten filament lamp. The manufacturers of some fluorescent and
low energy lighting systems indicate that these can interfere with electronic timer circuits.
