6.1.1 Connect up to the vehicle battery
1. Switch the vehicle ignition off.
2. Connect the RED (+) clamp to the battery plus pole.
3. Connect the BLACK (-) clamp to the vehicle earth (polished metal).
ATTENTION: If a warning signal sounds on the Booster and the display blinks with „Er1", then the poles have been
reversed. Please immediately reverse the clamps.
NOTE: Check that the cables are not too close to the drive belt, rotating parts and ventilators. Maintain a safe
distance to the battery whilst attempting to start the vehicle.
4. Switch the Booster on, at 550.1720 select, according to the on-board network, the correct voltage. Prior to the first
attempt at starting that the Booster stand securely.
5. Switch the ignition on and attempt to start the vehicle.
NOTE: If the motor does not start after approximately 6 seconds, allow to battery Booster to cool down for
approximately 3 minutes, prior to making the next start attempt. Otherwise the device could possible be
permanently damaged.
6. Once the motor runs switch the Booster off (550.1720) and first remove the BLACK (-) clamp from the battery minus
pole or the vehicle earth and the RED (+) clamp from the battery plus pole.
7. Attach the clamps onto the Booster side retainer holders.
ATTENTION: Start help with the Booster is only then possible, when the Booster battery voltage exceeds 8 Volts.
Press the small red button on the front of the Booster to check the battery voltage on the digital display. (Select prior to
this 700.1720 12V or 24V!)
NOTE: The Booster may not be connected up to any electricity supply when checking the charged condition.
6.1.2 Starting a discharged battery, with the help of the "Override function".
When the Booster is connected up to a vehicle battery with a too low voltage, the electronic does not switch any
current to the cable clamps. Despite this, the "Override function" still facilitated the starting of the vehicle.
ATTENTION: If the red button is operated for ≈5 seconds, the Booster protection switch is manually suspended and
the current flow to the cable clamps is released. When the Booster is connected up to a vehicle, the red button must
only be operated when it is ensured that the clamps are correctly connected.
The "Override function" facilitates jump-starting of discharged batteries (12V: 0-6V, 24V: 0-15V)
- If a discharged battery is connected then an audio tone is sounded and "Er2" is illuminated in the display.
- If the red pressure button is now pressed and held down the display indicated the current Booster voltage.
- After ≈5 seconds the Booster automatically counts down, this is seen in the display: 555>>444>>333>>222 >>111
- Once the countdown is completed an appreciable switching noise can be heard from the Booster, the voltage readout
can be seen in the display and the Booster releases the current flow to the clamps.
6.2 Charging the Boosters
6.2.1 General information concerning charging
Only charge the Booster with the supplied network-charging device or over the cigarette lighter cable on the vehicle.
The safest and recommended by the manufacturer method of charging is over the automatic network- charging device.
For this reason always if possible charge the booster with the automatic network- charging device!
The supplied cigarette lighter cable should only be utilized for charging the Booster if it is not fully charged on the
journey to the location of breakdown. (Refer to section "Mobile charging").
The cable clamps must not touch any metallic surfaces during the charging process, meaning the clamps are
positioned on the side storage holders during the complete charging process!
ATTENTION: Avoid discharging the Booster because this can lead to damage to the device!
The Booster should always be connected up to the automatic network-charging device neither when nor in use!
This ensures that the Booster is continuously ready for utilization (prevention of self-discharging) and damage to the
Booster is avoided. The battery Booster can be continuously connected up with the electricity network, because the
Booster automatically switches over to maintenance, so that any overcharging is eliminated.
