4.4 ECO Mode
Your appliance is equipped with a modern, programmable power saving function
(ECO Mode). It means that the appliance turns to power-saving ECO Mode (with mini-
mal heat output = using less electricity) 3 minutes after it last has been used (factory-
set). When the appliance is started again from ECO Mode, the heating up can take a
few seconds longer.
The ECO Mode can be deactivated for the appliance to be on full stand-by while
switched on. The following settings are possible:
ECO-Mode activated
ECO-Mode deactivated = 1-cup button lights up
The factory setting is «ECO-Mode activated».
• Turn your machine ON using the on/off button (13).
• Press the coffee strength button (3) for about 4 seconds.
• The buttons for the current ECO-Mode setting light up.
• By pressing the steam button (6), the machine changes to the other setting.
• For confirmation press the coffee strength - button (3).
• To confirm your setting, the appropriate buttons light up twice in succession.
• Programming is completed and the system is in coffee-ready mode again.

5. Maintenance and care

5.1 Filter
Through a dealer you can obtain a special filter for the water tank as a special acces-
sory. If this filter is correctly used, the decalcifying intervals for your machine will be
lengthened.
After fitting the filter, please set the water hardness to step 1 (see item 4.1). The
decalcifying indication will then only appear after a water consumption of
ca. 220 l.
Insertion/change filter
• Drain the water tank (16) and screw the filter into the mounting supplied (21) using the
enclosed mounting aid (20).
• At the date ring (months) at the top end of the filter cartridge, set the installation and
replacement date.
• Fill the tank with fresh water and reinsert the tank in the machine.
• The new filter must be rinsed before first use: hold a container under the steam/hot
water nozzle (8) and turn the rotary knob (7) clockwise. The system is then rinsed.
• Reclose the rotary knob (7) after drawing off ca. 2 – 2.5 dl of water.
The effectiveness of the filter is exhausted after about 50 l of water or after
2 months at the latest.
