4.10 Otoscopy
The R16M audio-tymp unit can provide a very efficient tool to analyze the external ear conditions,
when coupled with the RE-VO otoscope for the image acquisition of the external ear-canal and of the
tympanic membrane. Like all the other audiological tests, images can be stored in the local database
and later on transferred into the MDS Software.
Connection
The otoscope is equipped with a dedicated cable: all you have to do in order to connect it to the
device is inserting the mini-USB connector in the otoscope and the USB connector in the R15C USB
Host; it automatically switches on when an examination is started, and you do not need to press any
buttons to start.
Speculum insertion
The otoscope is supplied with a set of multiple size disposable specula making it suitable for both
young and grown-up patients.
Place the speculum on the otoscope tip and press it until it is fully inserted. In case the image
appearing on the screen is not centered, softly move the speculum tip around, until the correct
position is achieved.
Specula are single-use and need to be replaced each time after using.
Only specula supplied by MRS can be used.
In case any other part of the device comes into contact with the patient, just disinfect.
The unit is made of biocompatible materials.
Test performance
In order to start the test, switch the device on and press the icon illustrated on the side, on
the screen.
When the test is started all LEDs light up. Brightness is automatically adjusted to obtain an optimal
image quality however; you can also manually change it at your will by using the + and – buttons
positioned on the handle. By keeping the – button pressed for a few seconds you can switch from 2
LEDs mode to 4 LEDs mode and vice versa
