NOTE The redundant power source must be protected with Transient Voltage Surge
Suppression (TVSS).
NOTE DO NOT protect laser printers with the UPS because of the exceptionally high power
requirements of the heating elements.

NOTE The batteries charge to 80% capacity in less than 2 hours. However, it is
recommended that the batteries charge for 24 hours after installation or long-term storage.

If you are installing a UPS and a PDM and dual-redundant power to
the device(s) is desired, plug the minimum number of power cord(s)
required to operate the device into the PDM output receptacles
using power cords referenced in the FC 6571 PDM or FC 6572
PDM instructions. Then plug the remaining (redundant) power
cord(s) into a non-UPS protected output receptacle (e.g., PDU or
mains) or a second UPS with a PDM using device power cords.
Distribute the load evenly between the rows of receptacles on the
PDM.
Remove the breaker tie from all battery circuit breakers.
Switch all battery circuit breakers to the ON (
UPS Only: Plug the power cord provided with the IBM equipment
into the input connector on the UPS rear panel (see Figure 28 or
Figure 30).
UPS with PDM: Plug the power cord provided with the IBM
equipment into the input connector on the PDM rear panel (see
Figure 32 or Figure 33).
Plug the other end of the power cord into a power outlet.

The
indicator flashes, indicating the UPS is in Standby mode
with the equipment offline.
Press the On button.
μ
The
indicator illuminates solid and the bar graph indicators
display the percentage of load being applied to the UPS. The UPS is
now in Normal mode and supplying power to your equipment.
