Structure and mode of operation
3.1 Transducer
The four bolts ensure that a solid joint is created between the strain trans
ducer and your measurement object. The mechanical stress causes a change
in length in the measurement object, which is transferred to the strain trans
ducer. Because of this change in length, the electrical resistance of the
installed strain gages (SG) changes in proportion to the strain, and misaligns
the Wheatstone bridge. If there is an excitation voltage, the circuit produces
an output signal proportional to the change in resistance and thus also propor
tional to the applied change in length.
3.2 Strain gage covering agent
To protect the strain gages, the strain transducer is potted at the relevant
points with a special silicone compound. This procedure offers the SG high
protection against environmental influences. In order to retain the protective
effect, the silicone must never be damaged or removed.
