16 Checking the Hedge Trimmer

To switch the hedge trimmer on:
► Depress and hold the switch lever (1).
► Unlock the retaining latch (2) by pushing it forward with
your thumb. Hold it in this unlocked position.
► Depress and hold the trigger switch lockout (3).
The retaining latch can now be released and will stay in
the unlocked position.
► Squeeze the trigger switch (4) with your index finger.
The cutting blades will start moving.
The motor will not switch on unless the retaining latch is
unlocked and the switch lever, trigger switch lockout and
trigger switch are pressed at the same time.
The further the trigger switch is squeezed, the faster the
cutting blades will move.

15.2 Switching Off

WARNING
The cutting blades will continue to move for a short while
after the trigger switch or switch lever is released. To avoid
serious or fatal injury, avoid contact with the moving cutting
blades. To reduce the risk of personal injury from
unintended activation or unauthorized use, switch off the
motor, ensure the cutting blades have stopped and remove
the connecting cord before transporting or putting the hedge
trimmer down.

To switch the hedge trimmer off:
► Release the trigger switch and trigger switch lockout.
Once the trigger switch and trigger switch lockout have
been released, the retaining latch will return to its locked
position and activation of the trigger switch will be
blocked.
The cutting blades will continue to move for a short time after
the trigger switch or switch lever is released. Take care to
avoid contact after releasing the trigger switch and when
setting down the hedge trimmer.
16 Checking the Hedge Trimmer

16.1 Testing the Controls

Before starting work, confirm that the switch lever (1),
retaining latch (2), trigger switch lockout (3) and trigger
switch (4) are undamaged and functioning properly:

WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries, keep hands,
feet and other parts of the body away from the cutting
blades. Do not touch the cutting blades while the connecting
cord is inserted. Never touch moving cutting blades with
your hand or any part of your body, @ 6.5.2. Keep
bystanders out of the area while testing the controls.
