Make sure the machine is standing on a sturdy, flat surface. Check that all chains, ropes, belts and
rubber tyres are in good condition. If not, replace where necessary.

Only persons experienced in hoof care may operate this machine. Inexperienced persons should
ensure they are supervised by a second person who does have experience.
Preparing the hoof care box for use
Ensure you have a stable power supply. The box requires a 230V connection. Insert the plug (8)
into a working wall socket. Check that all of the switches for the motors are working and test the
emergency stop button. Place the head bail in the capture position using the lever located
to
the
top of the box (1). The head bail will automatically fold inward. Open the rump bar (7) of the box,
keeping one hand on the bracket and one hand on the control lever. Using the control lever, lift
the catch and then guide the rump bar upwards until the bar is fully open. Take care to ensure the
rump bar does not come into contact with bystanders or yourself. Hang the rope for the rear leg
winch (6) to the left behind the hook, so that the rope is not obstructing the passage into the box.
Using the yellow controls, lower the belly band (9) completely until it is lying on the floor. Hang the
tool holder (10) on the side of the box so that it cannot come into contact with the cow. Place the
rear gates (5) in position so that cow has only one way to enter the box.
Allow the cow to calmly enter the box. Check carefully to ensure that the head bail has closed
properly around the head of the cow.
Press the rump bar gently against the cow's rump. Raise the belly band until it is supporting the
cow. Do not lift the cow! Check that the rump bar is still in the correct position. If not, correct the
position.
Raising the rear leg
Lower the rope of the rear leg winch completely, so that you have enough length to grip the leg.
Wrap the leg tether around the rear leg and secure in place using the hook on the rope. Raise the
leg using the controls. Lift the leg to the required position, taking care to ensure that the spring-
loaded section of the rump bar is not fully engaged. This ensures that you are not pulling too hard
on the leg. When complete, lower the leg again and hang the rope back on the hook.
Raising the front leg
Lower the rope using the controls (3), making sure you have sufficient length. Hang the side chain
(11) on the hook to the rear. Wrap the rope under the foreleg, making sure the rope sits just under
the dewclaws, and then secure the rope with the hook. Guide the rope as it is being drawn up and
guide the front leg over the final distance onto the plastic support. Lower the rope completely
again, so that the leg is once again standing on the tread plate, then hang the rope on a hook
and hang the side chain back in position.
Releasing the cow from the box
Lower the belly band completely until it is lying on the tread plate. Check carefully to ensure that it
is flat and not in a raised position. With one hand, release the head bail using the control lever (1)
to the front and, with the other hand, pull the handle on the head bail (2) to open the bail. Allow
the cow to exit the box calmly and then return the head bail to the capture position. Carefully open
the rump bar again and the box is ready for the next cow.
