User manual for Mobile Hoof Care Box Type AL-27

Read the manual and safety instructions carefully, before operating this machine.
Make sure the machine is standing on a sturdy, flat surface. Check that all chains, ropes, belts and
rubber tyres are in good condition. If not, replace where necessary.
Make sure that moving parts, such as chains or axles, are lubricated in advance with oil or grease.
Only persons experienced in hoof care may operate this machine. Inexperienced persons should
ensure they are supervised by a second person who does have experience.

Positioning the hoof care box for use.

This box has been designed so that it can be towed like a trailer.
NOTE!
When moving the box with a powered vehicle, the driver of the vehicle is responsible for the
machine and for all other provisions, such as other road users.

Take the following steps when unhooking the box

Make sure the box is disconnected from the vehicle. Move the box to the location where you will be
working. Remove the lighting board from the machine and store in a safe location. Tip the box so
that the drawbar end is raised. Remove the 2 locking pins and then remove the drawbar and store
in a safe location. Make sure the axle/winch cable is tensioned and remove the axle lock. Turn the
winch so that the axle tilts and the machine is resting on the ground. Disconnect the cable from the
axle and wind it safely back on the winch.

Preparing the machine for use

Make sure the head bail is closed and place the right-hand pipe in the open position. Check that
the side chains are hanging correctly. Lower the belly band completely until it is lying on the tread
plate. Make sure the rump bar is open and that the rear leg rope and hook are hanging to the left-
hand side of the box. (There is a hook located here that you can hang the rope behind.)
Allow the cow to walk into the machine. Do not force the cow; make sure it remains calm. The cow
will walk into the machine. When the head of the cow is protruding through the head bail, pull the
handle connected to the right-hand pipe of the bail back and to the left. Slide the head bail pipe
into the locked position. Push the rump bar against the cow's rump until the required position is
achieved. Do not press the rump bar too firmly against the cow. Raise the front belly band, so that
the cow is supported. Do not lift the cow! The cow is now in position and you can proceed to raise
the hooves.

Raising the front leg

The front leg supports are equipped with automatic brake winches. Remove the side chain and
hang on the hook. Let out the winch so that you have enough rope. Wrap the rope over the hoof
and under the dewclaws and then secure the hook at the end of the rope. Pull on the rope and
wind up using the winch. This will raise the leg onto the support. Guide the leg in the direction of
the support. Let out the winch and release the rope in order to release the leg. Hang the side chain
back in position.
