1M115 / 1M149 SINGLE AXIS KNEE WITH BRAKE
1 – Description and functions
This knee is intended exclusively for lower limb prosthesis.
It is a single axis knee with hydraulic braking in stance phase, which provides 3 different adjustments and
extension assist.
During stance phase, the ground reaction force closes a jaw that locks the rotation axis.
The following 3 adjustments must be performed :
R - Adjustment of the extension assist force
F - Adjustment of the joint friction value
S - Adjustment of brake sensivity according to load.
2 – Indications and maximum weight
It is specifically recommended for patients with medium to low activity level (L1/L2) up to 100 Kg (220 lbs)
(carried load included).
This knee weighs 540 g for 1M115 model and 368 g for 1M149 model (titanium).
Maximum knee flexion : 150°. However it can be limited by the socket dimensions
or by the cosmetic cover.
CAUTION !
In maximal flexion the socket must necessarily get in contact with the collar
of tube-holder 3. Any other contact area is forbidden (see Fig. 1).
3 – Parts for connection and finishing
RELATED PRODUCTS RECOMMENDED :
Upper connection with female pyramid adapter of 1K172 type.
Lower connection with adapter of 1D41 type.
FINISHING : One-part cosmetic cover 1G13 (complete or partial)
It is recommended to reinforce the cosmetic cover in front of the joint to
increase its product life.
The cosmetic cover can modify the initial adjustments of the knee and
limit some motions. In any case you should place the cosmetic cover
before checking the knee funtions.
4 – Alignments
(See Fig. 2)
Function of braking mechanism essentially depends on prosthesis alignment. In
the sagittal plane, the alignment shown opposite is highly recommended.
In the frontal plane the load line will come through the knee centre and the foot
centre.
During normal walk after installation of the extension assist and after the
different adjustments described below, the knee must be in extension during
stance phase.
Caution ! The load line must go in front of the rear axis (fig. 2) ; other-
wise it could damage the knee prematurely and lead to a risk of
breakage and therefore of falling.
