5 - Installation of the extension assist
Install the parts of the extension assist as shown opposite : cable (a), adjusta-
ble bearing (R), mobile support (c) and springs (d).
Caution ! If there is rubbing between cable (a) and lateral screws (2.
(2.
) of adapter (2) during knee flexion, replace these screws by the
2
shorter ones (12 mm long) supplied with the knee.
6 - Adjustments
This knee allows 3 possible adjustments.
To ensure the patient's safety, the prosthetist should perform the first fitting
trials between parallel bars and with factory settings.
Then make the adjustments preferably in the following order:
1. Adjustment R of the extension assist force (fig. 3)
2. Adjustment F of the joint friction value (fig. 4)
3. Adjustment S of braking sensitivity according to load (fig. 5).
The foot model used can have an impact on the knee adjustments.
The knee should be adjusted each time the foot is changed.
The use of energy return feet such as Dynastar or DynaCity is
recommended.
Ensure the patient's safety in all circumstances and especially during
slope or stair descent.
A new adjustment of the knee is necessary after each maintenance
operation.
1. Adjustment of the extension assist (fig.3)
Adjust the extension assist force by screwing or unscrewing adjustable
bearing (R) with a 4 mm male hex wrench (k) :
- clockwise : tension will increase
- anti-clockwise : tension will decrease.
2. Adjustment of joint friction (fig.4)
Friction value is factory set, but can be adapted to the patient gait by
screwing or unscrewing screw (F) with a 3mm hex wrench :
- clockwise : friction will increase
- anti-clockwise : friction will decrease.
A change can already be noticed with a 15° to 20° rotation of the hex
wrench.
Caution ! : If the adjustment is too loose, it can lead to noises and a premature
wear. On the contrary, a too tight adjustment can lead to unexpected braking,
even without weight bearing.
3. Adjustment of brake sensitivity according to load (fig.5)
Brake sensitivity can be adjusted by screwing or unscrewing screw (S) with a
6 mm hex wrench :
- clockwise : a higher load is necessary to make the joint brake
- anti-clockwise : a lower load will make the joint brake.
