1 Operating Elements and Connections

1.1 Front panel (fig. 1)
1 Buttons with control LEDs for selecting the cam-
eras to be displayed in full screen format
2 Button for simultaneous display of all cameras in
four quadrants (quad picture)
3 Switch for manual camera selection or automatic
sequential switching
left position:
right position: automatic sequential switching
4 Control knob for defining the picture dwell time
[from 1 s (position "F") to 15 s (position "S")] for the
automatic sequential switching
5 POWER switch with control LED

6 Mains cable for the power supply 230 V~/50 Hz
7 Mains fuse
8 BNC output jack ONLY QUAD OUT for the connec-
tion of a video recorder or a second monitor for
recording or display of all camera pictures in the
quad splitter operation (independent of the se-
lected operating mode)
9 BNC output jack MONITOR OUT for connecting a
monitor
10 BNC input jacks 1 ... 4 for connecting the cameras
11 GAIN controls for each camera input

2 Safety Notes

This unit corresponds to the directive for electromag-
netic compatibility 89/336/EEC and to the low voltage
directive 73/23/EEC.
Attention! The unit is supplied with hazardous
mains voltage (230 V~). Leave servicing
to skilled personnel only. Inexpert han-
dling may cause an electric shock haz-
ard. Furthermore, any guarantee claim
will expire if the unit has been opened.
Please observe the following items in any case:
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it
against dripping water and splash water, high air hu-
midity, and heat (admissible ambient temperature
range 0 – 40 °C).
Do not place any vessels filled with liquid, e. g. drink-
ing glasses, on the unit.
The heat generated within the unit must be carried
off by air circulation. Therefore, do not cover the air
vents of the housing with any objects.
Do not insert anything through the air vents! An elec-
tric shock or failure of the unit may result.

Do not operate the unit or immediately disconnect
the plug from the mains socket
1. if there is visible damage to the unit or to its mains
cable,
2. if a defect might have occurred after the unit was
dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the unit must be repaired by skilled per-
sonnel.
A damaged mains cable must be replaced by the
manufacturer or by skilled personnel only.
Never pull the mains cable to disconnect the mains
plug from the socket.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means
chemicals or water.
If the unit is to be put out of operation permanently,
take it to a local recycling plant for a disposal which
is not harmful to the environment.
If the unit is used for other purposes than originally
intended, if it is not connected or operated in the cor-
rect way or not repaired by skilled personnel, no lia-
bility for any damage will be accepted.
Important for U.K. Customers!
The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accord-
ance with the following code:
green/yellow = earth
blue = neutral
brown = live
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this
appliance may not correspond with the coloured
markings identifying the terminals in your plug, pro-
ceed as follows:
1. The wire which is coloured green and yellow must
be connected to the terminal in the plug which is
marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol
or coloured green or green and yellow.
2. The wire which is coloured blue must be con-
nected to the terminal which is marked with the
letter N or coloured black.
3. The wire which is coloured brown must be con-
nected to the terminal which is marked with the
letter L or coloured red.
Warning - This appliance must be earthed.
3 Application
The B/W video quad processor TVSP-44 has been
designed for application in video monitoring systems.
It is a combination of a video splitter and a sequential
switch for cameras which allows observation of four
camera pictures in real time on a monitor:
1. together as reduced B/W pictures on a quad screen
in quad splitter mode
2. successively in full screen format (B/W or in colour)
in automatic sequential switching mode with ad-
justable dwell time

4 Connecting the Unit

The TVSP-44 should be switched off when connec-
tions to other units are made or changed.
