1. Caution!

Please read these Operating Instructions and the attached
safety information carefully prior to initial operation. Failure
to observe the safety regulations results in a risk to life and
limb.
The manufacturer shall not be liable for damage resulting
from misuse of the machine or unauthorised alterations.
The Weller SPI soldering iron series corresponds to the EC
Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the basic safe-
ty requirements of Directives 2004/108/EC, 2006/95/EC and
2011/65/EU.

2. Description

SPI 15 / 12V; SPI 15 / 24V; SPI 16; SPI-27; SPI-81
Weller SPI soldering iron series is produced for the discer-
ning leisure-time electronics expert and the electrical engi-
neering industry - exactly the right soldering equipment for
professional soldering work. Robust, economical, and to be
used for versatile soldering work, these soldering irons are
ideal for manufacture and service of electronic equipment.
The industrial soldering irons of the SPI series stand out for
their strong heating elements and the wide range of solde-
ring bits available of the long-life programme class. They are
connected to supply voltage. The various output groups of
15, 25, 40, and 75 Watt can be used to perform a large range
of soldering tasks. The long-life soldering bits have been pro-
vided with a galvanically applied protective layer. This pro-
tective layer extends the service life of the soldering bits con-
siderably, and must not be destroyed by any mechanical
actions (filing, scratching, etcetera). The latest galvanising
processes assure the best possible thermal conduction of the
soldering bits. In addition, they are absolutely scale and cor-
rosion resistant.

3. Initial operation

Fold the soldering iron tray according to the bending templa-
te enclosed. Place the soldering iron in the safety tray. make
sure that no inflammable objects are in the vicinity of the sol-
dering iron. Verify that the supply voltage is in compliance
with the connected load of the soldering iron. Plug the mains
plug of the soldering iron into the mains socket-outlet.
The mains cable must only be plugged into the mains socket
or adapter approved for this purpose. After the required hea-
ting-up time has run down, apply some solder to the solde-
ring tip. Subsequently, soldering work can be performed.
4. Operating instructions
Change soldering tip (only when cold):
by releasing clamping screw (12) and withdrawing soldering
pin to the front.
Avoid any seizure of the soldering tips. A thin graphite layer
applied to the bit end of the soldering tip as well as frequent
removal of the soldering tip prevents unpleasant seizure. The
soldering tip can be cleaned by means of a cleaning sponge
saturated with water. Always place soldering tip during bre-
aks.
