The gas burners
Fig. 1
6
There are indications to show which burner each control
knob operates. Fig. 1.
To ignite a burner, press down the control knob for
the burner you wish to use and turn it to the left, to
the ignition position, and hold it there for a few seconds
at most until the burner ignites, then let go, and set it to
the position you want. If the burner does not light, repeat
the process.
If the igniters are dirty, this makes the burner harder to
light, so you should keep them as clean as possible. Do
this with a small brush and make sure that the ignition
sparker is not hit or knocked violently.
If the burner goes out (e.g. a draught) when in use, the
appliance will switch the hotplate on again automatically.
If this ignition is unsuccessful (e.g. as a result of boiled-over
liquid on the burner), the flow of gas to this burner is
interrupted and an acoustic signal is emitted. Turn the
control knob to
rectified using the table on page 11.
Every hotplate features a safety pilot!
This means that if the flame ever goes out (e.g. is
extinguished by boiled-over liquid), the flow of gas is
interrupted.
The safety system will indicate any anomalies in its
working through acoustic signals (see "Home
troubleshooting" section).
The appliance switches off automatically after 6 hours
of operation. Turn all the control knobs to the
and then you can turn the appliance on again.
To turn off the burner, turn the control knob to the right,
to setting .
With the modern and functional cooking hob you have
purchased, you can have progressive taps fitted which
allow you to adjust the flame to the desired heat.
Depending on the model, your cooking hob may have
a triple-flame burner, which is very practical if you wish
to cook with cookware such as paella pans or Chinese
woks (to create all kinds of Asian dishes).
When you are using this gas appliance, it will make
the kitchen hot and humid, and therefore you must ensure
that the kitchen is well ventilated. Either keep the natural
ventilation apertures open, or install an extractor hood.
If you use your appliance for a long period of time, you
may need extra ventilation – either open a window
(though watch out for draughts) or turn up the power on
the extractor hood, if possible.
