Dear G-Scale Train Enthusiast:
Thank you for adding this PIKO model
to your collection. It has undergone
intensive testing throughout the
development phase, as well as
numerous inspections in the
production process, to ensure you
smooth operation and many years of
trouble-free enjoyment.
Of course, we welcome reports of
your experience with the model under
"real world" conditions, which even
the most thorough developmental
testing cannot completely duplicate.

The Prototype
The BR 24 shares its basic design with
the BR 64. Just like its sister BR 24
was considered reliable, strong and
versatile. Since entering service in
1928 the BR 24 proved itself as light
and nimble passenger service
locomotive. Its larger coal and water
capacity meant that it could be used
on long branch lines or even hauling
fast trains. The railroaders in the
former East Prussia nicknamed the
locomotive "Steppe Horse." Hauling
passenger, freight, and mixed trains,
through hot summers in the Münster-
land and deep snow in wintry Upper
Bavaria, the successful, 900hp rated
standard design always performed
reliably. The Deutsche Bundesbahn
retired the last BR 24 in 1966, while
some Steppe Horse operated in
Poland until the mid seventies.
The Model
The PIKO model of the Deutsche
Bundesbahn's BR 24 impresses with
its fine detailing and versatility. Just
like in real life the Steppe Horse can
be used with a variety of cars. It can
pull passenger, mixed and freight
trains. The compact, sturdy locomotive
features a steam generator with
separate on/off switch. In prototypical
fashion the model's smoke box door
can be opened. The precisely
manufactured wheel sets with
stainless steel rims ensure a very
reliable power pickup from the track.
The PIKO model is equipped with
directional lighting and is ready for
digital/DCC and sound. An engineer
figure completes the cab.

Getting Started: Initial Operation
Unpacking the Model
Remove the styrofoam packaging
extremely carefully to prevent
damaging accessories and attached
parts such as handrails etc.
Initial Operation
We recommend letting the locomotive
run without a train for 30 minutes in
both directions, to properly break it in.
This will help achieve optimal
performance and longevity for the
locomotive. Of course, your model
should only be run on smooth and
perfectly clean tracks with reliable
electrical contact to all track
sections.
