10. Battery changing

The PregTector has a low battery warning in the form of a beep tone. This will start to sound once
the battery voltage has dropped to a predetermined level, and the speed of the beep will increase
as the voltage drops.
The PregTector will remain usable for a time after the tone sounds, but you should ensure that a
new battery is fitted at the earliest opportunity. The battery is located in the probe ate the opposite
end to the probe face. To change the battery remove the end-cap by twisting in out, and shake out
the battery with its connector. Always replace with a new battery of the same type. Use only alkaline
batteries as these will give far better performance. Battery life will depend on the volume level
chosen. In case of any suspected problem with the detector, always change the battery before
considering returning the instrument for service. Rechargeable ni-cad batteries can also be used,
but unless you have difficulty in obtaining new alkaline batteries, or already have suitable re-
chargeable cells, it is recommended that alkaline batteries are used, as their performance will be
better. Batteries should ideally be bought from a store with a reasonable turnover of stock, because
the shelf-life of alkaline batteries in limited to about 2 years.

11. Guarantee

The Doppler PregTector is guaranteed for a period of 3 years from date of invoice, against
defective parts and manufacture. Instruments will be repaired free of charge provide that:
a) The unit is returned, carriage paid to the dealer from whom it was purchased.
b) The unit had been damaged by misuse, by maltreatment, including damage caused by animals,
or by unauthorized attempts at repair.
c) Batteries are specifically excluded from the warranty.
12. Trouble shooting
You may be able to save yourself time and trouble by carrying out simple checks and repairs
yourself. This is particularly the case where the PregTector is completely 'dead'. There are 2 likely
causes of this.
1. Check that the battery connector is making good contact with the two terminals on the battery.
Check especially that the female (+ve) cup on the connector side is property gripping the male
pole on the battery. If not, a gentle squeeze with pliers may solve the problem.
2. Make sure that the volume controls on the headset are full open. You may be able to check that
the connecters between the headset and the probe are functioning correctly if you have another
headset on a piece of audio equipment which had the same 6mm (1/4) jack plug. If the 'hiss'
when the on button is depressed can be heard with the test headset, but not with the original, the
problem is probably in the headset. But do not attempt to use the PregTector, except for this short
test, with any headset without first ensuring that it has an impendence value of 8 ohms.
