forward to remove it from the boi-
ler. Pull the light socket and cable
downward to take them out of the
lantern. Remove and replace the
light bulb. Reassemble.
Rear lanterns: Remove the ring
around the lantern lens. Carefully
pry the lens away from the lan-
tern. Using tweezers, remove and
replace the bulb. Reassemble.
Cab light: Using tweezers, remo-
ve and replace the bulb.
Replacing the smoke generator
- Pull the safety ring out of the
smoke stack (Fig. 3).
- Use pliers or tweezers to pull the
old smoke generator out of the
stack (Fig. 4).
- Cut the wires to the old genera-
tor and attach them to the repla-
cement generator (Fig. 5).
- Insulate the connections and
push the replacement generator
into the stack.
- Reassemble.
- Make sure to replace the safety
ring.
Replacing the traction tire
- Use a small, straight-blade scr-
ewdriver to pry the old traction
tire out of the wheel groove.
- Use a small, straight-blade scr-
ewdriver to gently pry the new
traction tire into the wheel groo-
ve.
- Make sure that the traction tire is
completely in the wheel groove.
Replacing the motor
- Remove the gearbox:
- Remove the hex head screws
that connect the drive rods and
the connecting rods to the third
axle (Fig. 6).
- Remove the front buffer bar. It
snaps into place.
- Counting from the front, remove
the second and fifth screw on
the bottom of the gearbox.
- Remove the gearbox from the
chassis.
- Disconnect the wiring cable.
- Remove the top of the gearbox
by removing two screws. Repla-
ce the motor.
- If necessary, remove the idler
gears by pressing them upward
out of the gearbox housing.
- Reassemble.
Attention! If the motor is remo-
ved, generously lubricate the
gears with LGB Gear Lubricant
(51020).
Attention! Make sure that the
drive rods do not bind. Binding
can cause serious damage to the
model. (Fig. 7).
Replacing the brushes, pick-up
shoes and wheelsets
- Remove

wheels. Pull the drive rods away
from the rear wheels.
- Remove the hex head screws
that attach the connecting rods
to the remaining wheels. Remo-
ve the connecting rods.
- Remove the remaining three
screws on the bottom of the
gearbox (Fig. 6). Remove the
bottom of the gearbox.
- Remove the power strips.
- Take the wheelsets out of the
gearbox.
- If necessary, replace the brus-
hes, pick-up shoes or wheel-
sets. Reassemble.
Hint: To replace the pick-up
shoes, lift and turn the wire
contacts to allow removal of the
metal retaining strips.
Attention! If the wheelsets are
replaced, generously lubricate
the gears with LGB Gear Lubri-
cant (51020).
Attention! Make sure that the
drive rods do not bind. Binding
can cause serious damage to the
model (Fig. 7).
Attention! When closing the
gearbox, make sure that the lead
wheel assembly and spring can
move freely.
