Cutting Large Sheets
(Fig. 17)
Large sheets and long boards sag or bend,
depending on support. If you attempt to cut
without leveling and properly supporting the
piece, the blade will tend to bind, causing
KICKBACK and extra load on the motor.
Support the panel or board close to the cut,
as shown. Be sure to set the depth of the cut
so that you cut through the sheet or board
only and not the table or work bench. The two-
by-fours used to raise and support the work
should be positioned so that the broadest
sides support the work and rest on the table
or bench. Do not support the work with the
narrow sides as this is an unsteady arrange-
ment. If the sheet or board to be cut is too
large for a table or work bench, use the sup-
porting two-by-fours on the floor and secure.
Rip Cuts
(Fig. 18, Fig. 19)
The saw is capable of cross, miter, and rip
cuts. Ripping is cutting lengthwise with the
grain of the wood. Narrow rip cuts are easy
to do with an Edge Guide 30.
The straight Edge Guide 30 is used for cuts
parallel to the edge of the work, and can be
inserted from the left of the Foot 4 plate for
cutting on the left of the material. The Edge
Guide 30 can be used with wood, plastic, or
non-ferrous metals.
1. Align the Edge Guide 30 with the Edge
Guide Slot 5 on the left of the tool.
2. Insert the Edge Guide Bar 31 through the
Edge Guide Slot 5 in the Foot 4, inserting
on the left and pushing it through to the
right.
When the Edge Guide 30 is inserted properly,
the ruler will face you.
3. Adjust the Edge Guide 30 to the desired
cutting width.
4. Secure the Edge Guide 30 with the Wing
Bolt for Edge Guide 6.
5. After attaching or adjusting the Edge
Guide 30, be sure the Edge Guide 30
does not touch or interfere with the free
movement of the Lower Guard 7 or con-
tact the saw blade.
