Wheel Guard Installation (Type 27
and Type 1A/41 Wheel Guards)

A Type 27 guard must be
used
wheels, bonded body sanding flap discs, wire
brushes and wheels. The tool may be used with-
out a guard only when sanding with convention-
al sanding discs .
A Type 1A/41A guard must
be used for all cutting oper-
ations.
To Attach Wheel Guard
1 . Unplug tool from power source .
2 . Press and hold the Guard Release/Adjust-
ment Lever 9 (Fig . 4), and place the guard on
the guard mounting flange until the guard's
keys line up with the notches in the spindle
collar (Fig . 4A) .
3 . Press the guard onto the guard mounting
flange until the shoulder of the guard is seat-
ed against the flange of the tool, and rotate
the wheel guard clockwise until it clicks in
place .
4 . Adjust the position of the guard to the re-
quirements of the work process . Press the
Guard Release/Adjustment Lever 9 and turn
the guard until it clicks into place then adjust
as needed .
— Always position wheel guard between the
operator and the work pieces and direct
sparks away from the operator (Fig . 5) .
— Ensure that the wheel guard is fully en-
gaged with the Guard Release/Adjustment
Lever 9 . The wheel guard should rotate
only when the Guard Release/Adjustment
Lever 9 is pressed . If the wheel guard ro-
tates without pressing the Guard Release/
Adjustment Lever 9 then stop using the
grinder and have it serviced at a Bosch Au-
thorized Service Center .
Note: The encoding keys on the guard ensure
that only a guard that fits the tool type can be
mounted .
To Remove Guard
1 . Press Guard Release/Adjustment Lever 9 .

2 . Rotate guard until the keys on guard line up
with the notches on the guard mounting flange .
3 . Lift guard off the guard mounting flange .
